About the Chair
The establishment of the King Khalid University Chair for Sustainability reflects the University's leading role in supporting comprehensive and sustainable development pathways in the Asir Region, while building on its continuous efforts to serve the local and regional community and its commitment to actively contributing to addressing current and future challenges across various fields of development. The establishment of this Chair is strategically aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainable development as a fundamental pillar for the Kingdom's future. It is also closely aligned with the Asir Region Development Strategy “Qimam and Shem,” which places sustainability at the forefront of its development, economic, and social priorities. The establishment of the Chair also supports and advances the objectives of King Khalid University Strategy 2030, which seeks to strengthen the University's standing and leadership regionally and globally.
The Chair will focus on providing in-depth and integrated strategic studies covering four key areas of particular importance to the Asir Region: health, social, environmental, and knowledge domains. This will contribute to enhancing quality of life and providing practical and innovative solutions that advance sustainable development in the region. The Chair will also support the University's efforts to advance scientific knowledge, empower national talent, raise community awareness of the importance of sustainability, and establish local and international research and scientific partnerships that contribute to achieving national and global sustainable development goals.

Chair Objectives
The King Khalid University Chair for Sustainability seeks to achieve a set of strategic objectives that contribute to supporting sustainable development in the Asir Region, enhancing quality of life, raising community awareness, and building effective partnerships to strengthen the University's role in serving society and national development. These objectives are as follows:
Strategic study supporting development: Prepare a specialized strategic study that addresses sustainable development issues in the Asir Region and provides practical and applicable solutions.
Promoting sustainability awareness: Disseminate and strengthen scientific knowledge and increase awareness among members of the local community and institutions about the importance of adopting sustainable practices.
Enhancing quality of life in health, environmental, and knowledge domains: Develop practical initiatives and projects that promote public health, preserve environmental resources, and employ knowledge and technology to improve quality of life in the Asir Region.
Developing human capabilities: Qualify and train researchers, students, and members of the local community, and enhance their scientific and practical skills in the fields of sustainability and sustainable development.
Building strategic partnerships: Establish effective partnerships with local and international institutions, exchange expertise, and develop joint programs to achieve sustainable development objectives.
Chair Areas of Focus
Health Domain: Studies and recommendations to improve health-related quality of life and healthcare infrastructure.
Social Domain: Studies and mechanisms to raise awareness, empower youth and women, and develop social programs related to sustainability.
Environmental Domain: Assessment of the environment and biodiversity, promotion of renewable energy, and expansion of protected areas.
Knowledge Domain: Providing specialized scientific studies, training qualified personnel, and building a sustainability knowledge database.
