After the issuance of the supreme decree No. (7/87 / m) of (11/3/1419 AH) which authorized merger of the branch of Imam University with the branch of King Saud University in Abha, to become both under one university named King Khalid University, the College of Medicine was one of the colleges that joined King Khalid University system.
After the issuance of the supreme decree No. (7/87 / m) on (11/3/1419 AH) which authorized the merger of the branch of Imam University with the branch of King Saud University in Abha, to become both under one university named King Khalid University, on this basis, the similar colleges and departments in these two branches were merged. In the same regard, the college of education was divided into two colleges: College of Science and College of Education. In this regard, College of Education was made to include the following departments: Education, Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Educational Psychology and Special Education.
To effect the merger, The royal decree N.O. 7/78/M, was issued to complete all relevant procedures necessary to effect the merger.
The University's first budget was issued on 14/09/1419 AH (02/01/1999 AD) within the general state budget. By that, King Khalid University joined the system of Saudi universities.
He ordered for the merger of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University and King Saud University in the Southern Region, into one entity under the new identity of 'King Khalid University' with effect from Tuesday 09/01/1419 AH (06/05/1998 AD).
At the time when the former Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques - King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - May Allah be merciful to him - was the Crown Prince,
College of Computer Science began its tasks at the beginning of the academic year 1421 / 1422 AH. This was after the study plans was approved by the University Council. In that time, the College started with two specializations (Computer Science and Information Systems).
The Recommendation of establishing the Faculty of Dentistry deliberated by the Higher Education Council at its 19th session, which was held on 10/11/1421 AH. The Council has decided by Resolution No. (09/19/1421) to approve the establishment of the Dentistry Faculty at King Khalid University, to be the first of its kind in the Southern Region.
After adopting of the study plan of Computer Science College by the university council, the college started functioning at the beginning of the academic year 1421 / 1422 AH. It started with teaching two specializations: Computer Science and Information System.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Higher Education Council approved the minutes of deliberations about the session of Faculty of Dentistry with a resolution No. 89 / M, dated 6/2/1422 AH.
In the 1422/1423 AH academic year, the College of Engineering began its activities and functions with 110 students admitted in the first semester spread over the two departments.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Higher Education Council issued the approval to establish College of Pharmacy in Abha, on 2/6/1422 AH.
The first batch of students admitted and began the study in the College of Pharmacy in its first academic year 1423 / 1424 AH.
On 26/9/1424 AH, the English Department of King Saud University was merged with the English Department of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University to become the College of Languages and Translation at King Khalid University.
At the beginning of the academic year 1426 / 1427 AH, the Department of network and Communication Engineering as well as, the Department of Computer Engineering were inaugurated at the Faculty of Computer Science.
The College of Sciences for Females in Abha joined King Khalid University in the academic year 1427-1428 AH, under the name of College of education for Females in Abha.
The supreme approval No. 5997 / mb was issued on 10/8/1427 AH, to establish the Community College in Al Namas.
The approval for the establishment of the Community College in Al Namas was issued by the Higher Education Council resolution No. 15/42/1427 at the 42th session on 25/4/1427 AH.
When it was under the old name (College of Education for Teachers Preparation), College of Sciences and Arts for Females joined King Khalid University on 5/6/1428 AH.
In the academic year 1428 – 1429 AH, the Vice - Presidency of Female Colleges joined King Khalid University in Abha, and study at the College of Administration and Home Economics followed the university system , thus becoming "the credit hours system".
The King Khalid University’s Community College for females in Abha was established in 1428 AH, and studies commenced in this college its site at Dhabab District Building.
College of Education in Bisha which was previously under the name of Teachers College, was attached to King Khalid University, through Decree No. 303 / mb, of 23/3/1428 AH.
Community College in Mahayel Asir province was established based on the decision issued by the Council for Higher Education No. 20/46/1428 and was ratified by the approval of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Higher Education Council - may God have mercy to him - guided by Decree No. 10093 / mb of 21/11/1428 AH. This development came as the continuation of the derive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, which aims at spreading higher education in all provinces and cities within the Kingdom.
Studies began in Community College, Muhail Asir, in 1429/1430 academic year, with only one department, which was the Information Systems. In the following year, another department - Business Administration was opened.
Based on the Higher Education Council Resolution No. (6/45/1428) of 18/1/1428 AH, which stated the approval of the recommendations of the committee charged with the merging of teachers colleges and female colleges administratively, financially, academically and etc… . the supreme approval No. (3030 / mb) of 23/3/1428 AH, was made. Regarding this, the scientific departments of teachers colleges in Abha became merged with the similar academic departments in the university colleges in Abha. In the same process, the educational departments of teachers college were merged with the departments of College of Education. As a result of this, the College of Education has been re-constructed to include the following departments: Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Educational Psychology, Education Technologies, Special Education and Education.
The College of Education for Teacher Preparation joined King Khalid University on 5//6/1428 AH.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques approved the minutes of deliberations about the session of establishing Sciences and Arts College in Balqarn with Decree No. 10209 / mb of 30/12/1429 AH.
The approval for the establishment of the College of Arts and Sciences in Balqarn was issued by the Higher Education Council resolution No. 10/50/1429 at its fiftieth session on 10/7/1429 AH.

On 3/07/1429 AH, the supreme decree No. 5150 / mb was issued to begin the work in the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences in Abha. This decision came in order to expand the circle of benefit from the King Khalid University based on the recommendation of the Higher Education Council by its resolution No. (24/49/1429H) to establish the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences in King Khalid University, Abha.
The name of the college was changed from College of Education for Teachers Preparation to the College of Sciences and Arts in Al Namas upon the resolution NO. (54/1), of (6/1/1430 AH). This Change included opening new sections: Department of Computer Science, Department of Life Sciences, Department of Home Economics - Accurate Specialties.
The College of Sciences and Arts in Khamis Mushait, Campus 1, started admitting students in the first semester of the academic year 1430 - 1431 AH. In that time, the number of students was 150, and the number has been increasing to reach 950 students in the year 1433 - 1434 AH. The Colleges contains three academic departments.
The Community College for females in Khamis Mushait was established in the academic year 1430 - 1431 AH, and it includes a large number of disciplines required by the labor market.
The College of Dentistry is to its new headquarters in the University City (Guraiger) at the beginning of the second semester for the academic year 1429-1430 AH.
Studies in the Community College resumed at the building of Academic Center for Female Study in Shamasan District in 1430 AH.
Studies began in the College of Arts and Sciences, in Balqarn in the first semester of the academic year 1430 / 1431 AH, with two departments, English and Computer Science.
The name of the college was changed from College of Education for Teachers Preparation to the College of Sciences and Arts in Al Namas upon the resolution NO. (54/1), of (6/1/1430 AH). This Change included opening new sections: Department of Computer Science, Department of Life Sciences, Department of Home Economics - Accurate Specialties.
The resolution No. 958/71 was issued on 5/11/1432 AH to change the name of the college from College of Education for Females in Abha to the College of Science. This process was according to the decision of licensing the College of Science for Females in Abha, which was issued by the Council of Higher Education, (No. 10/50 /1429 AH), on 10/07/1429 AH.
In 1432 AH, the name - Teachers College - was changed to become College of Education. Moreover, it came to include the following scientific departments: Department of Education and Psychology, Department of Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Department of Educational Technology, Department of Primary School, Department of Kindergarten and Department of Special Education.
Prince of Asir region Faisal bin Khalid opened sports facilities in the university and inaugurated a number of electronic projects.
The first graduates of Community College for Females in Khamis Mushait were in 1432 –1433 AH academic year.
In 1433 AH, the College of Computer Science separated from other scientific Sections to become an independent college offering the following disciplines:
Studies started in the College of Sciences and Arts in Tanumah at the beginning of the academic year 1433 - 1434 AH.
The Rector of King Khalid University inaugurated 121 Dental Clinics for female students in Dentistry College.
The College of Sciences and Arts for Females launched the general diploma in Al Namas in the academic year 1434- 1435 AH. It grants the general diploma degree in education.
In the academic year 1434 – 1435 AH, the Department of Business Administration was established and the College was named College of Administration and Home Economics.
The Faculty of Science for Females in Abha welcomed the media department at the beginning of the academic year 1434 / 1435 AH.
The President of King Khalid University (KKU) Prof. Abdulrahamn bin Hamad Al Dawood inaugurated the Students' Right Unit. At the same time, the President launched the Service Center for Guidance and Consultations. At the opening, the president was greeted and received by The Vice President of KKU Prof. Murai bin Hussein Al Qahtani and the Vice President of Graduate Study and Scientific Research at KKU, Prof. Ahmad Tahir, the Dean of Students' Affairs Dr. Abdullah Al Kasi, the Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Saad bin Du'ajim and in the presence of Vice Deans of Students' Affairs as well as some members of the university, including directors of departments, staff and students.
His Excellency The President of King Khalid University officially inaugurated the program of (My University is in the Service of My Community) in Tuhama Qahtan. He also promised the people they would see more good things in the future.
The Prince of Asir region Faisal bin Khalid inaugurated the International conference on Media and Rumor at the University.
The Vice President for Medical Affairs Prof. Khalid bin Saad Al Jelban launched the Medical Library which contains more than 7 thousand books covering various fields of medicine.
King Khalid University opened the medical clinics in Al Mahalah Academic Campus.
