As part of King Khalid University's focus on international accreditation, three academic programs were recently accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates. Representing 2 programs accredited by ABET from the Faculty of Engineering are the electrical engineering and industrial engineering programs. Representing the program accredited by ABET from the Faculty of Computer Science is the information systems program. Of noteworthy mention, King Khalid University is the first Saudi higher education institution to have at least 1 program receive accreditation from both the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and ABET.
On his part, King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, explained that the academic accreditation of programs is one the university's main goals to achieve the Kingdom's 2030 vision. He also congratulated the university employees on this great achievement and commended the support devoted to education in our country.
Vice Rector of Academic Development and Quality, Dr. Merzin Al-Shahrani, maintained that the university pays great attention to the accreditation of its academic programs through the continual review and update of programs. He explained that this will significantly contribute to the achievement of the Kingdom's 2030 vision and the move towards a knowledge-based economy. He observed that accreditation of the aforementioned programs is confirmation of quality outcomes that prepare students to meet requirements in the job market and adds to the credibility of the programs. This, he related, allows students the opportunity to explore creativity and innovation as well as expands confidence in the program's graduates writ large.
Vice Rector Al-Shahrani asserted that this achievement is the result of His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy's support and guidance and the tutelage provided by the Deanship of Academic Development and Quality to colleges and their programs.
