His Excellency, the Rector of King Khalid University, Prof. Dr. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, launched the project of academic plans and programs development. The program aims to create a scientific renaissance at the University level through the establishment and development of about 100 programs including diploma, bachelor, master and doctorate programs, in addition to the implementation of new courses in all colleges and departments. The University's Vice-Presidents, Faculty Deans, and supporting deanships attended the first meeting of the Advisory Deans Committee.
Rector Al-Solamy opened the meeting with a welcoming speech; he then emphasized the vital importance of the project and urged all members of the Committee to exert the required effort needed to overcome all difficulties in pursuit of the desired outcomes. Al-Solamy pointed out that this project is compatible with the strategic plan of the University. Additionally, he announced the allocation of its budget.
The University Vice-President for Academic and Educational Affairs who is also the General Supervisor of the project, Professor Saad Bin Dajjam, praised the University's Rector and the enthusiasm of the faculties and departments represented by the deans, vice-deans, and heads of departments to participate in this developmental project. Professor Bin Dajjam asserted that the “Wakb” project is one of the most important initiatives that the University is currently working on in terms of the number of participants and the importance of the objectives. It includes the redevelopment and modernization of academic programs, linking them to the needs of the labor market and the latest developments in the field of specialization.
Following after, the Director General of the Curriculum and Strategy Unit, Dr. Ahmed Ismail Al-Haidar, delivered a visual presentation of the project, in which he explained that it is aligned with the University's endeavor to take a prominent scientific position at all levels of the local, regional, and global higher education arenas. He noted that all work would be completed under the objectives of Vision 2030, the National Transition 2020, and Afaq. Moreover, it will adequately address the needs of the labor market, he added. Al Haidar said that this project is a clear directive deriving from the major priorities of the university's senior management, and as a result of the support received by the newly established Curriculum and Plans Unit, a decisive step towards a broader horizon of excellence and increased competition in the labor market and development in all academic disciplines.
Together with the implementation of the project, Al-Haidar explained that the planning phase is over and the implementation phase has started. Consequently, permanent committees were formed in addition to other main and subsidiary committees in all of the University colleges and department. He stated, “The third phase of the project will start working soon; accrediting programs that have met all the criteria and requirements set by the Curriculum and Planning Unit."
Al-Haidar pointed out that the Unit will hold development workshops to train and enhance the skills of faculty members at the University and raise their efficiency in terms of building, developing, and revising academic plans to teaching strategies. Finally, Dr. Ahmed Ismail Al-Haidar thanked all colleges and departments for their constructive cooperation, which will provide considerable benefit to the University in particular, and the society in general.
