Under the patronage of the Rector of King Khalid University (KKU), His Excellency, Prof. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Solamy, and with the participation of 30 researchers from various parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the university will hold a symposium entitled 'the role of universities in promoting dialogue among civilizations'. The symposium will take place during the period 14 - 15 of this month, and venue will be the central terraces at the University City in Abha.
His Excellency Rector Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Solamy, has stressed that the symposium came in accordance with the objectives that had been previously designed by the university to spread a number of concepts that deal with their history and their values. Rector Al Solamy said, "We are working at the university on a regular basis to establish such seminars. The purpose is to provide studies and researches that will in return upgrade the scientific process and will promote a number of concepts"
Prof. Al Solamy added that "the seminar seeks to achieve a number of objectives including spreading the culture of dialogue among civilizations; its definition, its importance, its objectives, its history, and its stages, in addition to being familiar with the diverse dimensions of dialogue among civilizations in our contemporary life". The symposium also seeks to highlight the role of the universities in sponsoring the dialogue of civilizations and in exploring the desirable role in the future, in addition to many of the goals that are set to be achieved, which can contribute to the success of this symposium. The symposium also aims to spotlight the efforts of Saudi Arabia in promoting dialogue among civilizations. King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Center for dialogue among followers of religions and cultures is the best proof of these efforts; the center offers services that could benefit humanity. "We hope that this symposium comes out with several recommendations to reinforce and to spread these concepts", Rector Al Solamy said.
For his part, the Vice - President for Educational and Academic Affairs, who is also the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Mohammed Al Hassoun, stressed that the University was pleased to host that symposium, because of its important role in spreading the culture of dialogue. Dr. Al Hassoun added that "the importance of the symposium lies in promoting dialogue that is needed to coexist, accepting others' opinions, in addition to the highlighting and discussing a variety of efforts made by universities on the intellectual and educational levels". Dr. Al Hassoun further expressed his happiness with the efforts of the participating researchers who are interested in the subject of dialogue, which is considered a fundamental pillar of progress and development.
In turn, the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the symposium, Dr. Saleh Abu Arad, clarified that the Scientific Committee had completed its entire works on the reception of summaries of the research papers which will participate in the symposium. The Committee has received 30 researches in number, in addition to the adoption of the program of the scientific sessions of the symposium. There will be 6 sessions spread over two days, in addition to choosing heads of sessions who are participating in the symposium.
It is noteworthy that the symposium will be transmitted via the internet for Women's section at the theater of the Faculty of Science for Girls. It will also be transmitted over the Internet through a special link during the days of the symposium. Participators are universities from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and some of the actors involved in this subject.
The subjects of the seminar are centralized on the dialogue of civilizations (meaning, concept, importance, goals, history, and stages), and on religious, political, historical and educational, in the media, economic, social and cultural dimensions of the dialogue of civilizations in our contemporary life, in addition to KSA universities and the dialogue of civilizations (reality and future), the university requirements involved in the programs (the courses of the Islamic culture, and the courses of the Arabic language, and the courses of History and its role in highlighting the Islamic identity), as well as offering different models of university experiences of how to achieve positive interaction with the theme of the dialogue of civilizations and religious, cultural coexistence between the followers of civilizations.
