Under the patronage of the Governor of Asir region, who is the Honorary President of the Saudi Dental Society and obesity surgery in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, King Khalid University (KKU) has participated in the Second International Conference of Medicine and obesity surgery. The event took place from 6 to 8 Muharram 1438 AH. The venue of the event was Abha city and it was organized by the Saudi Society of Medicine and Surgery of obesity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and by the hospitals of the armed forces in the south, in collaboration with the office of the General Administration of Sport in Asir.
The head of the surgery departments at the Faculty of Medicine at King Khalid University in Abha, who is also a member of the Saudi Society and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Dr. Mohammed Bawahab, has stated that the final lists of the participating speakers in the conference have been approved. He also set the schedules of the main sessions and workshops that have been held on the sidelines of the conference, in addition to the arrangements for the accompanying medical exhibition, as well as the educational awareness exhibitions which have been organized in malls and in schools around the region in order to spread health awareness among a largest audience, especially the concern segment of the community.
40 speakers from around the world participated in the conference, representing a group of consultants who were specialized in this area. They were from different countries and continents, including America, Europe, Asia, and the Arab Gulf states, as well as participants from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The conference has received a remarkable follow-up and special support from the Governor of Asir region, who directed all relevant authorities to support and take part in the success of this important medical event. The conference has a wide reputation among various segments of society of both sexes as it - the conference - helps greatly in the prevention of obesity which threatens peoples' lives with dangerous diseases.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi Society of Medicine and Obesity Surgery is one of the leading scientific societies, which conducts its activity and functions under the umbrella of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. The Society is also specialized in conducting studies about obesity, especially after the increased number of obese people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which exceeded 50% of both sexes, leading to several life-threatening diseases.
