His Excellency, the Governor of Asir region, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz - may Allah protect him - sponsors the opening ceremony of the University Health Systems Conference "the concept, and the message" on Wednesday morning, in Abha Palace Hotel.
The president of the University, who is the General Supervisor of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Dawood, has, in a speech at the occasion, clarified that the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, was continuation of his interest for all activities of the University, in addition to all programs of the public interest. The President said: “The patronage of his Highness comes because of his active and important role in the university education, and health services in the University, as well as education services of all kinds, and this is not surprising when we know that the goals of the University include the overall process of the development of the community, and health services are one of the most important goals for the University interest”.
President Al Dawood further clarified that the conference came out of the attention of the academic health systems in the University, as well as the need for balance between the health education, scientific research, and health services, pointing out to the serious endeavor to build an integrated health system in the University.
From his part, the Vice President for Health Specialties, who is the President of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Khalid Bin Saad Al Jalbaan, has explained that the patronage of His Highness, the Governor of Asir region, was an honor for the University and for the conference, and was a support from him to that important event. Prop. Jalbaan stated thus "this conference comes as belief in the role of the University toward the country in general, and the society in particular, as well as the institution's contribution in the scientific global legacy, to address new concept in university health systems.
Prof Jalbaan further clarified that the idea of holding that conference came from the experience of the unprecedented revival in the health education in university and at health facilities, which exceeded 20 cities, and university hospital in various regions of the Kingdom. This development has led to the emergence of this concept, which has never been discussed by scientific approach since the global university health installations adopted public health system without having a specific identity. Prof. Jalbaan continued " this new concept attracted leaders in this area of the greatest university health installations from around the world, to participate with papers and visions for this concept, which will impact on the quality of health services and health education in the kingdom, and which promotes its scientific position in this field and this concept. This development is expected to be the start of further research and conferences around the world, as the University remains the pioneer in this approach ". Prof Al Jalbaan concluded by clarifying that "through the themes of the conference, we will reach clear and practical recommendations on the sides of academic, health, service, educational and research".
The Health Systems Conference's aims are to develop the concept of health systems in the universities, to clarify of the balance mechanism between health education and scientific research, to provide services, as well as to define the role of health systems in universities within the public health system. Other aims include studying the sources of sustainable financing of health systems, defining the best methods to manage the university health systems, providing a statement of the scope of the health systems in universities and degrees, identifying the levels of service being provided, exploring the future of university health services in the Kingdom and their impacts, and determining the success standards of the university health systems.
