In conjunction with the activities of the International Day of Theater 2016, the activities of the Second Theater Festival started today (Sunday). The activities were organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs at King Khalid University, in collaboration with the Culture and Arts Association in Assir. The venue of the activities was at the association's Theater in Muftaha village.
The Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Nasser Al Gomishan, welcomed the attending guests saying: “The University has given all of its attention and interest to the theater, because of its importance as a significant tool to attract the talented students, and to develop their technical capabilities in the areas of acting, diction and other arts”.
Dr. Al Gomishan clarified that the University theater gathered students, and it was an important method to learn a lot from the alphabet of theater through being in touch with supervisors, specialists, and directors alike. He added: "The University theater is considered an important stage in the students’ lives, which offers theater performances that discuss various issues”.
Dr. Al Gomishan also noted that the theater had a role in raising beautiful values, that could be placed in the students’ hearts, like the love of country and its important role in the building of the student's personality. Dr. Al gomishan continued "it helps him to get rid of the psychological sediments, such as fear, shame and personal weakness, and it is an important factor in promoting self-confidence and in the ability to face others.
From his part, the Director of Culture and Arts Association in Assir, Mr. Ahmed Alsroe, clarified that the festival of that season was part of the celebration program of the International Day of Theater, stressing the importance of that cultural and theatrical event, in which many of playwrights wre hosted.
The festival activities were launched by the performance of the play "Hungry", presented by the students of the Faculty of Medicine. next, the activities continued at 4 pm, with the play "Containers", and at 7 pm, with another one termed" Forgetfulness".
The festival also offered a specialized seminar in the theatrical field after sunset prayers. The activities were concluded on the third day after presenting two plays, in which the Faculty of Islamic Law and Faculty of Administrative Sciences participated.
In the Committee of Critique at the occasion were, the Theatrical Director, Critic and President of the Arts Society in Ahsa, Mr. Ali Al Ghwainem, the writer and Filmmaker, Mr. Yasser Al Hasan, the Writer and Critic, Yahya Al Alkami, the Critic and the Secretary of the Culture committee in Rijal Almaa, Hussein Zeidani, and the Director of the Office of the International Commission for the Theater in Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Qassim Asiri, while the Judgment Commission included the Director of culture and Arts Association in Assir, Ahmed Alsroe, the Film Director, Subhi Yousef, and Dr. Abdul Hamid Al Housami.
