Under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Asir Region - may Allah protect him - King Khalid University, represented by Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Research and Environmental Studies Center, organizes the First Saudi Conference for Environment, under the slogan of "The Sustainable Exploitation of Natural Resources." The occasion is being participated by 229 specialists in environmental affairs. It is taking place in the period of 27 - 29 of Jumada Al-Awwal 1437 AH.
His Excellency, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hanmad Al Dawood, the President of the University (KKU), who is also the General Supervisor of the Conference, clarified that the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Asir Region, was continuation for his profound and permanent attention to all university's activities, and what is related to the public interest. He said: "His Excellency's patronage comes as an indication to his important and active role in the preservation of the environment, where the award of the environment conservation and development was founded by His Excellency in Abha".
President Al Dawood clarified that the First Saudi Conference for Environment - that was intended to be organized by the university - was based on previous studies, which showed the importance of conducting it, of the need to raise the awareness about it, and of getting the maximum benefits from our natural resources, and never neglecting it.
President Al Dawood added: "Asir Region is characterized by its climatic and geographical diversity (mountains, and coastal and marine), which make the university seeks to organize such as this conference, with the hope to achieve the desired results".
The Vice President for High Studies and Scientific Research, who is the Deputy General Supervisor of the Conference, Dr. Majid bin Abdul Karim Al Harbi, pointed out that the patronage of His Highness, the Governor of Asir Region, was an honor for the University and for the Conference. Dr. Al Harbi added that it was support for that important event, "the conference gets its significance through the rapid increase and over exploitation of natural resources, and the human activities accompanying. These are considered to be one of the key causes of the problems of contemporary global environment, such as climate change and diminishing biodiversity, as well as the increase in desertification rate, in addition to water, air, and soil pollution in Saudi Arabia in general, and in the Asir Region in particular".
Dr. Al Harbi said that those invited to the conference were specialists’ speakers from all over the globe, from the Arab - Islamic world - including those from within the Kingdom. He concluded by clarifying that there would be an exhibition during the period of the conference.
In the same context, The Director of the Prince Sultan Research Center for Environment, Prof. Dr. Hussein Wadi'i, clarified that the Scientific Committee, headed by the Vice President for High Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Majid Al Harbi, designed the slogan of the conference to reflect its axis and objectives, as well as its leaflet and website.
Prof. Dr Al Wadi'i indicated that the applications for participation in the conference reached 370 in number, which covered the conference terms. He added that it was selected after the evaluation of 69 research papers and stickers from outside the Kingdom (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Jordan, Yemen, Pakistan, India). He pointed out that the accepted internal application for participation were 160 including those from a large number of Saudi universities.
It worth mentioning that the sessions will begin with general main session from 9 am to 10:15 am, provided by conference guests (main speakers). The first day will also include four sessions (after the main session), to be provided by the participants of research papers, and working papers from the outside and from inside the kingdom, and 4 sessions on the second day (after the main session), to be provided by the participants of research papers, and working papers from the outside, and from inside the Kingdom. The third day will start with main session, to be followed by participants’ papers session, and finally the recommendations session.
