His Excellency the Rector of King Khalid University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Dawood, has expressed his delight with choosing King Khalid University by the National Festival for Heritage and Culture, to participate in the festival by a workshop. His Excellency's statement was stated while sponsoring the workshop of social networks and values system in the society, which was organized by the Information and Communication Department of the University, and with the participation of more than 50 students from the department, as well as the participation of those who are interested from various faculties of King Khalid University.
Rector Al Dawood stressed that the university was cooperating with everyone. He praised the role presented by the workshop and the students who are working on its arrangements. He said, "This workshop is focusing on those who are the basis and the future of this country - youth" and he added, "Social networks are very popular among young people, particularly in Saudi Arabia, that is why why we support the establishment of such a workshop; to activate the role of male and female students." Rector Al Dawood also announced that the university was going to launch a national project which is a survey on the number of students from universities in various regions of the Kingdom. The project will end with the establishment of a national symposium through which such studies will be submitted and a number of researchers and specialists will be invited to participate with scientific papers.
At the beginning of the meeting, the supervisor of the workshop, who is also the Head of the Media and Communication Department of the KKU, Prof. Dr. Ali bin Shuweil Al-Qarni, welcomed the Rector and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Yahya Al-Sharif, informing that the workshop was an initiative of the National Festival for Heritage and Culture which chose three universities among the universities in the Kingdom, and King Khalid University (KKU) was among those three universities. Prof. Al-Qarni said, "Within the interest of heritage and culture Festival (Janadria) to expand the range of interests and the distribution of its activities in various regions of the Kingdom, the festival chose King Khalid University to organize a workshop in which male and female students with media attention participate"
The workshop included two sessions and discussed three themes. The first theme handled the topic of how we could promote social networks to strengthen values systems in the society in addition to enriching the cultural scene in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the second theme, the topic of challenges faced by society's values through the absence of social responsibility in social networks was handled. The third theme addressed the aspirations of the youth in the next phase and the areas on which youth think that they must be focused, as well as exploring the best ways to deal with young people in terms of cultural affairs at the current stage.
The workshop aimed at activating the partnership between the National Festival for Heritage and Culture and the University of King Khalid, in addition to enhancing communication with the students of the university, so as to establish a common cultural mobility that takes into account the aspirations of young people, and which discusses their visions and their problems, through dialogue and discussion, to launch and to understand the stage and its requirements, and in order to get out with convictions, practical ideas, and new visions, to find out things that matter to the youth in particular, and to the society, in general. Moreover, a committee for recommendations was formed of students, to write down recommendations in order to be forwarded to the Rector for approval.
