The Urology Department at the University Medical City of King Khalid University has strengthened its role in delivering specialized healthcare services by performing more than 120 surgical procedures since the launch of its surgical program. This milestone reflects the department’s growing capabilities and the expansion of specialized treatment options available to patients with urological conditions across the Aseer Region.
The Head of the Urology Department, Dr. Muath Al-Muraie, explained that the department provides a comprehensive range of specialized diagnostic and therapeutic services. These include non-surgical treatment of kidney and urinary tract stones, endoscopic and specialized surgical procedures, treatment of benign prostatic enlargement using laser technologies and prostate vaporization, as well as men's health services and the treatment of infertility and delayed conception through microsurgical techniques, one of the most advanced technologies in male reproductive surgery.
Dr. Al-Muraie added that, as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to advance specialized surgical services, it recently succeeded in performing a highly precise kidney tumor removal procedure while preserving the healthy portion of the kidney. The operation was carried out by Professor of Urology, Prof. Abdulaziz Al-Omari, representing another significant achievement that reflects the department’s surgical expertise and its adoption of the latest treatment approaches aimed at preserving kidney function and improving patients’ quality of life.
He further noted that the department continues to implement its development plans across several subspecialties, including pediatric urology and functional neurourology. In addition, work is progressing on establishing the Infertility and Fertility Center at the University Medical City. The project is supported by Farhan Bin Mubarak Al-Qahtani Foundation through a dedicated donation for the supply, installation, and maintenance of the center’s equipment, contributing to enhanced infertility and fertility treatment services and expanding the scope of specialized healthcare available to beneficiaries throughout the region.
Dr. Al-Muraie emphasized that surpassing the milestone of 120 surgical procedures represents a significant achievement in the department’s journey and reflects its continued commitment to developing specialized services and adopting advanced medical technologies. These efforts contribute to providing advanced treatment options within the region, reducing the need to refer patients elsewhere, and further enhancing the quality of healthcare services delivered to beneficiaries.
