King Khalid University, in collaboration with Elsevier and Studyportals, has launched the "Discovery and Learning Bridge" project as a pioneering pilot model that envisions the future of higher education and research intelligence. The project aims to develop an advanced university institutional intelligence model that connects scientific research, education, and the labor market.
His Excellency the President of King Khalid University, Professor Dr. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al-Sulami, stated that the launch of this project reflects the university's strategic direction toward building a world-class institution capable of leveraging knowledge, data, and modern technologies to advance education, research, and innovation. He noted that the project demonstrates the university's commitment to adopting innovative models that support decision-making, enhance its international competitiveness, and contribute to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in the higher education sector.
For his part, the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Hamed bin Majdoua Al-Qarni, explained that the project represents an important step in advancing research, graduate studies, and innovation at the university by building an integrated model that links research capabilities, academic programs, labor market needs, and future opportunities. He emphasized that this partnership with global organizations will generate strategic insights that support the prioritization of research and academic initiatives while strengthening the university's impact locally and internationally.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Qahtani, Project Director and Supervisor of the University's Innovation Ecosystem, explained that the project responds to the rapid global transformations in the higher education sector and the growing need for intelligent institutional models capable of utilizing data and knowledge to support strategic planning, decision-making, and the anticipation of future development opportunities.
Al-Qahtani added that the project aims to build an intelligent institutional model that unifies scientific research, higher education, and the labor market within a comprehensive analytical framework, enabling the transformation of academic and research data into actionable strategic insights. These insights will support the development of academic programs, guide research and innovation initiatives, and enhance the alignment of the university's outcomes with future developments.
He noted that the project is the result of a distinguished trilateral partnership between King Khalid University, Elsevier—with its global expertise in research ecosystems, publication analytics, research impact analysis, and research intelligence tools—and Studyportals, renowned for its advanced capabilities in analyzing global higher education data, international student trends, and the attractiveness of academic programs. This partnership provides the project with a unique integrated dimension that combines deep research knowledge, an understanding of global education trends, and labor market needs, contributing to the development of an intelligent institutional model capable of transforming fragmented data into actionable strategic insights.
Through this project, King Khalid University seeks to achieve several strategic objectives, including establishing an integrated university institutional intelligence ecosystem, strengthening the integration of research, innovation, and education, developing intelligent knowledge-based performance indicators, identifying opportunities for academic expansion, enhancing the university's international academic standing, supporting global academic marketing, and paving the way for national and regional expansion of institutional intelligence applications in higher education institutions.
The partners recently held the project's inaugural meeting, during which they agreed to launch a focused pilot phase based on several priority disciplines identified by the university. The objective is to test the proposed model and evaluate its ability to generate strategic insights that can be translated into development decisions and initiatives. They also agreed to establish a comprehensive governance framework to regulate data exchange and institutional collaboration among the participating parties, while adopting a methodology based on analysis, review, and integration to ensure the development of a sustainable and scalable model.
The project represents a pioneering global initiative and the first of its kind to establish an advanced university institutional intelligence ecosystem capable of transforming knowledge into impactful decisions, policies, and initiatives in education, research, and innovation. It further strengthens King Khalid University's position among academic institutions leading the transformation toward data-driven and knowledge-based higher education that is better equipped to respond to future requirements.
