2025-11-16

The King Khalid University Medical City, in partnership with the College of Pharmacy, represented by the Clinical Pharmacy Department, and Eitana Society for Diabetes Patient Care, launched the activities of the Awareness Week for World Diabetes Day 2025. This is part of a comprehensive awareness program that will continue until the following week, aiming to promote health awareness and enhance the quality of care for diabetic patients, consistent with national efforts to prevent the disease and support healthy lifestyles.

Dr. Tahani Al-Mailbi, Head of Pharmaceutical Services at the Medical City, explained that the organization of this program was a response to the community and health role undertaken by the university. She stressed that promoting diabetes awareness is a fundamental step to limit its spread and activate preventive practices that contribute to improving the quality of life for patients and the community. She added that the programs offered during the week provide a comprehensive scientific and awareness dimension that combines health education, screening, and direct counseling.

Al-Mailbi added that the first day included the implementation of a number of educational activities, most notably the scientific program for health practitioners titled: Beyond Blood Sugar Control, A Comprehensive Approach to Diabetes Care, which was presented at the University Conference and Exhibition Center. It featured an interactive lecture and scientific discussions that addressed the latest global practices in patient care and raising the efficiency of dealing with different cases.

She noted that the community events witnessed wide participation. The Friday event, held at Moujan Park Mall, provided an effective awareness model by offering blood sugar level tests for mall visitors, providing direct health guidance, and answering their inquiries about the disease, prevention methods, and living with it. She also indicated that the Sunday event, directed at university staff and held in the University Administration building, focused on spreading the culture of healthy lifestyles in the work environment and providing awareness insights that help reduce the risks of developing diabetes and promote preventive behaviors.

Al-Mailbi added that the week will conclude next Tuesday with an extensive event in the main lobby of the outpatient clinics at the University Hospital. She explained that the event includes educational and awareness booths targeting patients, visitors, and students, offering scientific and guidance content that contributes to raising the level of awareness and benefiting from preventive health services.
