Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Center for Environmental Research and Natural Resource Sustainability at King Khalid University concluded yesterday the activities of the "Talented Researcher" program, which was held from July 20 to 24, 2025. The program aimed to train and qualify a select group of middle school students in scientific research skills, sustainable environmental thinking, and innovative design to address environmental challenges.
The week-long intensive training program hosted 25 gifted students from the Asir region. It included daily hands-on workshops covering topics such as the fundamentals of scientific research, data collection techniques, and the development of innovative environmental solutions. Participants were also trained to build project ideas in areas such as sustainable agriculture and the protection of natural resources.
Dr. Rahma Nasser Al-Jarais, Director of the Center, emphasized that the "Talented Researcher" program provided a practical educational experience that successfully introduced environmental scientific research concepts to a younger age group in a simplified and structured way. She added that the program was designed to build students’ foundational skills in data collection, problem identification, and environmental analysis using critical thinking tools—enabling them to develop preliminary projects that reflected their understanding of the concepts taught.
Dr. Al-Jarais also noted that the students’ active participation in all stages of the program—from brainstorming to experimentation and presentation—demonstrated their ability to absorb and respond to scientific content. She stressed the importance of engaging this age group early in educational environments centered around research and application. Moreover, she pointed out that the level of student interaction and the quality of final projects clearly reflected the success of the experience and indicated the effectiveness of the training and guidance approach used throughout the program.
