King Khalid University, represented by the Deanship of E-Services and in collaboration with the General Administration of Human Resources, concluded the second edition of the Estront Hackathon under the slogan “Innovation Starts from a Healthy Environment”, with wide participation from university employees. The initiative aims to stimulate technical creativity and develop the work environment through innovative and sustainable digital solutions.
Dr. Hamed Al-Qahtani, Dean of E-Services at the university, explained that the hackathon targeted administrative staff and faculty members to improve the employee experience within the university workplace through practical technology challenges. The event focused on enhancing quality of life, increasing productivity, and promoting work-life balance.
The hackathon challenges were organized into three main tracks:
Employee Experience Track – aimed at strengthening workplace belonging and improving facilities using modern technologies.
Employee Productivity Track – focused on solutions for business sustainability, information organization, and quality improvement through AI and emerging technologies.
Employee Happiness Track – aimed at supporting mental health, achieving work-life balance, and creating a supportive work environment.
As part of the competition preparation, participants underwent a comprehensive training program delivered via Coursera, under the Flexible Learning Paths initiative, which included workshops and specialized courses on design thinking for innovation, data analysis for improving employee experience, digital entrepreneurship, and professional idea presentation.
The hackathon activities spanned from January 1 to February 27, 2025, including registration, nomination, training, development, submission, and concluded with a judging day and closing ceremony, during which projects were showcased and winners were honored.
Judging criteria included the level of innovation, feasibility, utilization of emerging technologies, quality of presentation and implementation, and adherence to the training program. The top three teams were awarded, and outstanding projects were encouraged for future development within the university environment.
Participants expressed their gratitude for this initiative, which provided a fertile environment for creativity, innovation, and constructive competition.
King Khalid University emphasized that achieving a motivating and healthy work environment is at the heart of institutional digital transformation, and the Estront Hackathon represents an effective step in this direction by empowering human resources and involving them in building a workplace that meets their aspirations and supports their performance.
