His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Asir Region and Chairman of the Regional Development Authority, sponsored on Sunday evening the ceremony honoring Arab universities listed in the 2024 Arab University Rankings, held at the King Khalid University Theater in Al-Far’ah.
HRH welcomed the Arab guests from the Association of Arab Universities, honoring excellence in the academic field, and extended congratulations to the Kingdom’s leadership on King Saud University achieving first place in the Arab ranking, with King Khalid University ranking fifth among Arab universities and second among Saudi universities.
Prince Turki bin Talal emphasized the Regional Development Authority’s support for King Khalid University to achieve further excellence locally and globally, in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the objectives of the Ministry of Education.
The President of King Khalid University, Dr. Faleh bin Raja Allah Al-Sulami, delivered a speech highlighting that the 2024 Arab Ranking ceremony represents an important step to strengthen integration among Arab universities and open new horizons for cooperation, especially in light of global challenges that underscore the importance of joint efforts. He also noted that the forum initiated by HRH, titled “Universities and Sustainable Development,” reflects the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the new Universities Law, and King Khalid University’s 2030 strategy, aligned with the Asir Region Development Strategy.
Dr. Amro Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, praised HRH Prince of Asir for sponsoring the event, commending King Khalid University’s prominent role in human development and regional advancement. He noted the university’s significant contribution to Vision 2030 through distinguished education and promoting the region as a global tourist and cultural destination. He added that 373 universities from 16 Arab countries participated in this year’s ranking, an increase of 165 universities from the first edition, reflecting the Arab universities’ commitment to academic excellence standards.
Dr. Salama highlighted that university rankings have become a key reference for governments and educational policymakers to evaluate universities and design education development plans. They are also used by companies to select academic partners and are required by some ministries of education to approve partnerships or establish branch campuses.
The ceremony concluded with HRH Prince of Asir honoring the Arab universities listed in the 2024 Arab Rankings and those achieving the top ten positions: Tunis El Manar University (10th), Taif University (9th), Alexandria University (8th), Mansoura University (7th), Ain Shams University (6th), King Khalid University (5th), University of Sharjah (4th), United Arab Emirates University (3rd), Cairo University (2nd), and King Saud University (1st).
