    University Issues Final E-Learning Statistics for 1441 AH - King Khalid University

    After the suspension of attendance and switching to e-learning as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic, King Khalid University was successful in the transition to a full e-learning environment during the second semester of 1441 AH.

    E-Learning Plan

    His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, explained that the Deanship of E-Learning's plan was based on four principles:

    • Training: Ensuring all faculty members are able to conduct their courses;
    • Support: Providing a dedicated team to deliver technical support 24/7;
    • Follow-up: Ensuring daily reports are delivered to each college that bolsters the educational process;
    • Content: Provide a dedicated team to provide direct and indirect content as required.

    Educational Process Statistics

    In numbers, Rector Al-Solamy highlighted that 84,684 virtual classes were attended by 770,342 students (duplication across sections noted), recorded lectures reached 56,043, electronic evaluations reached 1,806,718 (except electronic test), discussion boards reached posts 11,215,350 with an average of 373,845 discussions on a daily basis.

    In terms of faculty members, 95% of them added asynchronous electronic content, 90% created synchronous virtual lectures, 92% used electronic assessment tools, and 96% used communication tools with students.

    In terms of student interaction, the utilization rate exceeded 92% from the beginning of suspension until the final exams. 98% benefited from asynchronous electronic content, 80% from virtual lectures, and 95% with online assessment tools.

    Scientific Theses and Dissertations

    Rector Al-Solamy highlighted that 159 theses were defended online. In detail, 113 master's theses and 46 PhD theses.

    Technical Support

    Various technical support was provided during the transition period, including 14,248 calls, 4,810 messages via WhatsApp, 329 direct meetings, 96 online support tickets, 87 emails, 4,984 Blackboard support requests, and 500 iPads for international students.

    Electronic Meetings and Support

    19 e-courses and 2 e-meetings have been presented to faculty members, and 2 e-meetings for students with the participation of 12 trainers in the presence of 3,788 faculty members and 485 students. Furthermore, 15 informative guides were prepared, 3 frequently asked questions websites, 106,125 e-mails, and over 250,000 SMS messages.

    Tamkeen Channel

    229 educational videos were presented to faculty members and 44 videos for students. Views since the beginning of the crisis reached 225,398 views, while subscribers to the channel were 11,534.

    E-learning Community

    The beneficiary's e-learning community on Blackboard reached 4,245 faculty and 53,490 students.

    Deanship Reports

    During the transformation period, the Deanship of E-Learning prepared 270 reports with 190 reports submitted weekly about the activation of faculty and students for e-learning tools. Also, 45 reports on the absorptive capacity of e-learning systems were delivered, 23 reports on the level of activating e-learning or the activating of specific tools in the learning management system, and 12 reports on activating e-learning in general.

    Tests and Assessment

    50,866 students sat for the final e-test with 2,847 faculty members in 5,257 courses at 29 colleges. Overall, evaluation reached 7,628 assessments for 226,770 students, 656 projects for 9,293 students, 487 papers for 4,527 students, 452 presentations for 4,072 students, and 292 oral tests for 4,957 students.
