King Khalid University Rector Sponsors the First Collaboration Activity Between Cambridge University Press and the Faculty of Languages and Translation

Under the patronage of King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, the Faculty of Languages and Translation organized a training workshop for faculty members in collaboration with Cambridge University Press. The workshop represents the launch of a new English textbook series for the English Language Center. Of note is that the workshop spanned two days with the entire English Language Center staff. Cambridge University Press training experts conducted the workshop at facilities for both male and female teachers.

 

This seminar represents a significant milestone in the university's efforts to partner with premier education institutions throughout the world on joint ventures and programs. These ventures are conducted in accordance with the highest educational standards and modern instruction frameworks. These help ensure that the university obtains recognition for achieving the standards set forth in the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, and Assessment'.

 

Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, confirmed that this improvement program was a high priority for the Faculty of Languages and Translation and the English Language Center. This initiative was in collaboration with Cambridge University Press. The purpose of the venture was to develop and implement an English skills curriculum of the highest caliber. The new curriculum is designed around the Cambridge Language Learning Corpus, which comports with Saudi culture and Islamic values.

 

Dean Al-Melhi added that the new curriculum helps ensure student success by frequent measurement of proficiency throughout each section of each course. For example, each section has a test-bank containing thousands of questions that will accurately assess student achievement.

 

The partnership between the Faculty of Languages and Translation and Cambridge University Press entails an ongoing training and support component. Using a variety of tools, such as the online training system, our teachers will stay updated on the latest developments, techniques, and methods to be used for scientifically oriented language instruction.
