The University Awards Winners of Tourism Translator Competition

The Tourism Translator Competition, organized by the College of Language and Translation, concluded with a commemorative ceremony at the University City Conference Center in Al-Fara'a, on Monday, October 9th. Attended by His Excellency, the President of King Khalid University, Prof. Faleh bin Rajaallah Al-Solami. The event was organized to showcase the region's touristic potential  and historical legacy; in conjunction with the Saudi Vision 2030 tourism objectives. 

The Dean of the College of Language and Translation and General Supervisor of the competition, Dr. Ahmed Ismael Asiri, declared in his closing statement, "Translation is a method of communication amongst people of different cultural, linguistic, and national backgrounds. This competition was organized to broaden horizons in the field of tourism translation; in support of the university strategy, and Asir Development Strategy "Qimam and Sheyam".

Head of the Translation Department at the College of Language and Translation, Dr. Issa Ahmed Asiri said that over 100 language and translation students from across the kingdom participated in this competition. They were instructed to translate texts about Asir tourism through three different specific translation paths, Written-Translation, Interpretation, and Audio-Visual translation; in three different languages, English, Chinese, and French.

The ceremony was  included by  a visual presentation that highlighted information about the competition and its different paths, languages, and statistics. As well as an interactive presentation to showcase the leading role of modern translation studies in cultural communication.

His Excellency honored the competition's committee members, and concluded the ceremony by awarding the winners as follows, 

In the Audio-Visual Translation Path, 

  • First place winners, Ibrahim Salim Al-Malki, and masters' student Mishari Ouad Al-Harbi from King Khalid University; in English.
  • Second place winners, Ghaida' Ali Al-Theeb, Wa'd Abdullah Al-Humaidan and Wafa' Abulaziz Al-Hamad from Imam Mohammad bin Saud University; in English.
  • Third place winners, Zyad Ahmed Al-Qahtani, Mohammad Abdullah Al-Jared, and Faisal Abdullah Al-Mughairah from King Saud University; in French.

In the Written-Translation Path,

  • First place winner, Manar Ammar Al-Ammar, from Al-Qasim University; in English.
  • Second place winner, Sahar Talal Al-Jehani from Um Al-Qura University; in English. 
  • Third place winner, Alia' Fouzan Al-Madi from King Saud University; in French.

In the Interpretation Path, 

  • First place winner, Salma Al-Subaie, from Princess Nourah University; in French.  
  • Second place winner, Saleh Sulaiman Al-Barak from Al-Qasim University; in English.
  • Third place winner, Juan Mohammad Al-Fahad, from Imam Mohammad bin Saud University; in English.
