King Khalid University concluded its participation in the 8th International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education with four workshops delivered by a group of specialists. On the final day of the International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education, Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Ahmed Al-Faya, held a workshop titled 'Graduate Programs at King Khalid University and 2030 Vision Alignment in the Labor Market'. The workshop discussed the graduate programs at King Khalid University and highlighted the relation of the programs to the labor market.

 

On the same note, King Khalid University Chief Information Officer, Dr. Salem Alelyani, presented a workshop titled 'Artificial Intelligence in Education', which discussed artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their practical utilzation capabilities in education. He also elaborated on the use of artificial intelligence in problem-solving in education. Director of the Corporate Governance Center, Dr. Mari Al-Habash, presented a workshop on 'Governance in Saudi Universities: A Model for Implementing the 2030 Vision'. He addressed the concept of university governance, its importance, elements, and methods. He followed with a number of recommendations related to the achievement of Vision 2030.

 

Dr. Ashraq Al-Khabaz, Senior Education Counselor at the Embassy of the United States of America, held a meeting with King Khalid University's students. She explained the procedures for selecting a specialization for a scholarship program, how to solve visa problems, how to write a proposal and a statement of purpose.

 

Advisor to the Undersecretary of Higher Education, Dr. Iman Khayyal, visited the university's pavilion along with a number of leading figures from Imam Muhammad bin Saud University, Al Qassim University and the Ministry of Education's Research and Development Office.

 

Of noteworthy mention, university volunteers staffed the pavilion and provided information about school programs and initiatives to a great number of visitors. The staff had both print and digital media available to the public. The volunteers were available throughout the day to answer questions from guests.

The Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Mohammed Al-Shaikh, visited King Khalid University's pavilion at the International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education where he met with the university rector, university representatives, and leadership figures. Of noteworthy mention, King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, executed new agreements with Tabuk University in numerous fields. This partnership is strategically aligned with King Khalid University's research and scientific movement, which aims to strengthen domestic and international presence through active scientific and research partnerships with domestic and international universities. Prior to the agreement with Tabuk University, it was reported that His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy executed new agreements with the National Center for Academic Assessment and Accreditation in the Evaluation of Education and Training for consideration of 3 additional undergraduate programs (Arabic Language and Literature, Clinical Laboratory, and Pharmacology), 1 graduate program (Curriculum and Teaching Methods), and 1 doctorate program (Management an Educational Supervision). He also signed educational and community service cooperation agreements with 4 other domestic universities (Bisha University, Jazan University, Taibah University, and Taif University).

 

Given that King Khalid University was very active during the conference, it was an honor to have center stage on a variety of workshops. Dean of e-Learning and General Supervisor of Design, Dr. Fahad Al-Ahmari, delivered a visual presentation on the KKUx platform. He highlighted the university's efforts in developing and enhancing future skills through the platform. Dean Al-Ahmari discussed how the platform works and its main purpose, which is to connect learning outcomes to labor market needs. He concluded his presentation by stressing the value of in-demand skills. Of note, KKUx's web traffic has exceeded 20,000 visitors and is the first of its kind in the Kingdom's higher education field.

 

In the field of research, Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Hamed Majdooq Al-Qarni, delivered a workshop on 'Research Programs at King Khalid University and Achievement of the Objectives of the Strategic Plan of the University and the Vision of the Kingdom 2030'. The workshop reviewed the experiences of the Deanship of Scientific Research and progress in building research programs and its relation to the university goals and mission.

 

On the topic of admissions to international universities, the university's pavilion hosted guest speaker from King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Samar Al-Sagaf, who discussed the requirements and conditions for applying to international universities. She also spoke on the laws and life of the hosting universities and countries.

The International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education was recently held on Riyadh on the 10th of April. Undersecretary of Education for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ahmed Al-Muharj, hosted the event, in which many domestic and international universities participated. The representatives included several university rectors, deans, and cultural attachés. King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, represented King Khalid University at the conference.

The Rector reported that the conference was a success, particularly for King Khalid University. 'The university is on track with respect to its short-term and medium-term development objectives. We are continually improving and expanding our academic programs and our civic outreach efforts. We aim to be recognized as a top 200 university worldwide within 10 years, and make significant contributions towards the fulfillment of national goals as set forth in Vision 2030' he said.

The Deanship of Student Affairs at King Khalid University, represented by the Guidance Center, attended the Quality Requirements for Guidance and Counseling Services Workshop in Riyadh organized by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA). The primary purpose of the two-day workshop was to identify the quality requirements of guidance services in higher education institutions, the standards, and associated accreditation criteria. It also covered strategies needed to achieve the standards, clarification of the skills to plan guidance services,  and how to evaluate and develop said services.

Guidance and Counselling Center Supervisor, Dr. Khudran Al-Sahimi, delivered a presentation on the university guidance and counseling experience at the level of Saudi universities. He addressed the outstanding work and success achieved by the center, and the efforts to achieve psychological and educational stability. He explained what the center offers to students in the field of education, psychology, and the therapeutic field. He also highlighted the most critical programs and services provided by the center among which is the newcomer's introductory program, the prevention of negative behavior awareness program, the dangers of smoking program, and Al-Mutmainoon Campaign for the spread of mental health awareness in the university.

It is worth mentioning that the Guidance and Counselling Center prepares an annual plan for the main programs at the end of the academic year to work in accord with the preceding academic year. The center has a Religious Counseling Unit, Psychological and Educational Counseling Unit, and Social Guidance Unit. These units are distributed over 44 stand-alone work groups in different colleges supervised by a trained faculty member. Notably, the center also includes a group of specialists who oversee cases and follow-up on a continual basis. As set forth in the center's protocols, if a situation requires medical intervention, it is coordinated with specialists in the Psychiatry Department and a transfer is made. Currently, as explained by Dr. Khaddran Suhaimi, the launch of a number of services that will contribute to the development of the center are underway most importantly the Mostashark Application and the Irshad Guidance Application.
