His Excellency, King Khalid University Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, recently sponsored the World Quality Day ceremony at the university theater in Abha. His Excellency, Taibah University Rector Prof. Abdulaziz Alsarani, was the guest of honor. Other honored guests included Dr. Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Fuhaid, Deputy Executive Director of the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment, and former Executive Director of the King Abdulaziz Quality Award, Dr. Zebin Althobaiti.
At the beginning of the ceremony, His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy welcomed His Excellency Rector Alsarani and the other guests and participants. Rector Al-Solamy then delivered his opening remarks in which he expressed his appreciation to the national leadership for focusing on quality. He noted that "continuous quality improvement is an integral aspect of economic development in every sector." Rector Al-Solamy also thanked the University's Quality and Development Agency, the Deanship of Academic Development and Quality, and the University employees for their quality initiatives.

Dr. Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Fuhaid, Deputy Executive Director of the National Center for Academic Accreditation, briefed the attendees on Quality and Development factors and the impact they have on the Kingdom's Vision 2030. He also discussed ranking and the competition among Saudi universities in domestic and international educational institutions. Later, the former Director of the King Abdulaziz Quality Award addressed the criteria of the Award, and the role it plays in recognizing quality in work performance. Vice Rector of Academic Development and Quality, Prof. Merzin Al-Shahrani, then presented the quality achievement awards to the winners at King Khalid University. He then introduced the University's achievements and awards in the field of quality.
At the end of the ceremony, His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy honored the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and all of those who are helping to design and implement quality improvement plans.
King Khalid University, represented by His Excellency Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, received five accreditation certificates for degree programs in the College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and the College of Computer Science. Numerous university Vice Rectors, College Deans, and support staff joined the Rector in marking this achievement. The event took place during the 'Third Quality Forum in Higher Education' held in Riyadh. The forum was under the patronage of Royal Court Advisor, Education and Training Evaluation Commission Board of Directors Chairman, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al-Issa.
The forum began with a speech by His Excellency the Minister of Education Dr. Hamad Bin Mohammed Al-Shaikh. His Excellency highlighted that the Kingdom's wise leadership is devoted to and focuses on education. He also briefed the attendees on the roles and plans of the Education and Training Evaluation Commission. At the end of his speech, His Excellency commended the Saudi universities for their commitment to quality education and the continuing efforts towards institutional accreditation.
Then, President of the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, Dr. Hossam Abdul Wahab Zaman, delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of quality assurance in universities, and the role of institutional and program accreditation in supporting learning outcomes. He noted that the universities within the Kingdom have achieved great accomplishments in education because of their tireless and continuing efforts.
During the awards ceremony King Khalid University received accreditation for the following programs:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) Program at the Faculty of Medicine;
- Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Programs at the Faculty of Engineering;
- Computer Science and Computer Engineering Programs at the Faculty of Computer Science.
The Rector expressed his gratitude to all who made accreditation possible.
The International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education was recently held on Riyadh on the 10th of April. Undersecretary of Education for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ahmed Al-Muharj, hosted the event, in which many domestic and international universities participated. The representatives included several university rectors, deans, and cultural attachés. King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, represented King Khalid University at the conference.
King Khalid University had its own pavilion set up at the conference. University volunteers staffed the pavilion, and provided information about school programs and initiatives to a great number of visitors. The staff had both print and digital media available to the public. The volunteers were available throughout the day to answer questions from guests.
During the conference His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy executed agreements with the National Center for Academic Assessment and Accreditation in the Evaluation of Education and Training for consideration of 3 additional undergraduate programs (Arabic Language and Literature, Clinical Laboratory, and Pharmacology), 1 graduate program (Curriculum and Teaching Methods), and 1 doctorate program (Management an Educational Supervision). He also signed educational and community service cooperation agreements with 4 other domestic universities (Bisha University, Jazan University, Taibah University, and Taif University).
The Rector reported that the conference was a success, particularly for King Khalid University. 'The university is on track with respect to its short-term and medium-term development objectives. We are continually improving and expanding our academic programs and our civic outreach efforts. We aim to be recognized as a top 200 university worldwide within 10 years, and make significant contributions towards the fulfillment of national goals as set forth in Vision 2030' he said.
