King Khalid University - Media Center


Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor Asir, King Khalid University, represented by the Communication and Media Department from the College of Humanities, will hold the third international 'Media and Crisis: Dimensions and Strategies' on the 13th and 14th of Rajab 1440/20-21 of March 2019.


King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, commended His Royal Highness for his generous sponsorship for the event. Rector Al-Solamy stressed that this conference is a result of the university's belief in the responsibility it holds towards regional and national issues. He explained that the conference aims to research and discuss the strategic dimensions applied to face media crises.


Vice Rector of Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Saad Al-Amri, confirmed that this conference is centered on the role of media in crisis situations and the methods of reporting crises in media. The conference will also discuss a number of strategies to handle crises in media and to control the image and credibility of the news reported. He stressed that the organizing committee of the conference has completed all preparations and attracted a number of professionals from the field who will discuss the latest developments in the field of media and communication.


Dean of the College of Humanities, Dr. Yahya Al-Shareef, explained that the conference will discuss major media issues and witness the participation of international experts and professionals. He added that the role of media in reporting crises and news must be taken seriously. Dean Al-Shareef pointed out that the conference aims to discuss the impact it has on day to day life.


In the same context, Director of the Conference Scientific Committee, Dr. Ali Al-Qarni, added that this conference is considered one of the most important conferences the university will sponsor due to the current regional and international topics to be discussed. He noted that two sessions will be held as part of the conference activities. He further noted that this conference is the third conference to be held by the Department of Media and Communication.

His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Asir Governor, visited King Khalid University on Wednesday. His Royal Highness came to the theater at the main campus in order to meet the university students, faculty and staff. King Khalid University, His Excellency Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, hosted the Governor and presided over the ceremony.


His Royal Highness thanked all of those who organized his visit to the university. He also praised the university for all of its efforts including meetings, conferences, events and initiatives that contribute to the progress and development of the Asir Region and the Kingdom as promulgated under Vision 2030. His Royal Highness noted that universities are special institutions that both protect our culture and promote scientific and technical advancement. He told the students that they play a vital part in achieving university objectives. 'University students are enormously helpful in moving existing projects forward. Today's students are also the future of the Kingdom, and we are most grateful for their talent and energy' he said.


His Royal Highness next provided an update on the new university campus. He stated that the transition of faculty and staff to the new King Khalid University city is in process. Many of the buildings, facilities are either ready or very nearly ready to be used for their intended purposes.


His Royal Highness stressed that the new campus will enhance and improve the university's core capabilities, while enabling even more ambitious public service projects for the Asir region.


Prior to the end of the visit, His Royal Highness hosted a general question and answer session. The Governor took many questions and addressed many issues raised by students, faculty, and staff. At the conclusion of the meeting, His Royal Highness thanked all of the participants and attendees. His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy thanked HRH Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for his time and attention and welcomed him for further visits to King Khalid University.

On Monday King Khalid University will host a workshop on the 'The Role of Renewable Water in Economic Development' at the main campus. The Ministry of Environment, Water & Agriculture organized the event under the aegis of the Governor of the Asir region, His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz.


The purpose of the workshop is to raise community awareness about water renewal technologies and its relationship to economic development in the Kingdom. The workshop hosts will review a variety of current and planned renewable water projects. The initiatives are concurrent with renewable energy development plans to support the overall objective of sustainable growth and development.


The event will also include an exhibition to introduce members of the public to the fundamental principles of renewed water solutions and its impact on the economy. The latest projects in the Asir region will be the focal point of the plenary sessions, which will include an examination of wastewater treatment policies and procedures.
