The General Directorate of Information Technology (IT) carried out a number of electronic community initiatives during the first semester of the 1439-40 academic year. As part of its community service program, initiatives included 'Asir Codes', 'Coding Hour', and the iT Internship Program. The Asir Codes Initiative is part of the Saudi Codes National Initiative, which is a cooperative program with the Misk Foundation for Saudi youth development.

King Khalid University has recently obtained the 5th place among the Saudi Universities, according to the American ranking "US News" for the year 2014. In fact, ranking depends on the performance of universities in the field of academic research.
According to the ranking, the university comes after the King Saud University, the University of King Abdul Aziz, the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Moreover, the university occupied the 27th place among 91 Arabian Universities and educational institutes.
