MEWA Organizes Safe Use of Pesticides Workshop

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Asir Governor, King Khalid University and the Ministry of Environment Water & Agriculture (MEWA) organized a workshop on 'Safe Use of Pesticides'. At the beginning of the workshop, Asir Region Developmental Affairs Vice Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duraibi, toured the accompanying exhibition, which included the participation of a number of local agriculturalists, and private industry.

 

The workshop discussed several scientific papers starting with an introduction to the General Directorate of Plant Production. Also reviewed were the environmental impacts of pesticides and the judicious application of same. This was followed by the experience of local agriculturalists on using pesticides safely. In an exciting new development, the use of nanotechnology in the design and preparation of targeted pesticides was reviewed in depth. It was noted that nanotechnology in combination with environmentally responsive controlled release has great potential. Also illustrated was the national program for monitoring pesticide residues and the role of the Asir Municipality Laboratory in analyzing pesticide residues with agricultural products. At the end of the workshop, a panel discussion was held with the participation of a number of specialists and agriculturalists to answer inquiries and questions related to pesticides and agricultural product safety.

 

On behalf of Asir Governor, His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Asir Region Developmental Affairs Vice Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duraibi, honored the participants from MEWA, King Khalid University, and private industry.
