University to Host Scientific Olympics

By the direction and consent of the Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh, King Khalid University will host the upcoming Scientific Olympics for Saudi Universities. The Deanship of Student Affairs is spearheading the event organization. The Scientific Olympics will take place at the main campus from the 3rd until the 7th of Rajab 1440.

 

At the announcement ceremony, King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, thanked the Minister of Education for his tutelage and confidence in King Khalid University to ensure that the Scientific Olympics are successful. The Rector then formally invited all other Saudi universities to participate in the competition. Rector Al-Solamy then noted that 'King Khalid University is proud to sponsor the Scientific Olympics. We hope to advance the cause of scientific progress and creative problem solving through friendly competition'.

 

Vice Rector of Academic Affairs and General Director of the Scientific Olympics, Dr. Saad Muhammad Du'ajim, stated that the goal of these games is to promote a culture of intellectual and scientific curiosity among the students. 'Through competition, we will harness our students’ considerable talents and skills to drive science, technology, and cultural enhancement forward. Their individual and collective commitments to excellence will profoundly assist in the Kingdom’s development efforts'.

 

The competition will be fierce. More than 200 students from around the Kingdom will participate. Events will cover a wide variety of academic majors and disciplines. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Abdullah bin Mansour Al-Aideed, recounted some of the events including:

 

  • Recitation of the Holy Quran;
  • Hadith and Sunnah studies;
  • The biography of the Prophet PBUH;
  • The art of presentation;
  • Short films;
  • Arabic calligraphy;
  • Poetry;
  • Photography;
  • Digital art (design);
  • Cultural awareness competitions;
  • Short films;
  • Community service.

 

The competitions will involve both individual and team efforts. The winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the games.
