Saudi Universities’ Chess Championship Kicks Off at King Khalid University

Under the patronage of His Excellency, the Minister of Education, Prof. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, the events of the Saudi Universities’ Chess Championship 2024 will kick off Tuesday, 21 Shawwal, at King Khalid University. The championship is organized by the Saudi Universities’ Sports Federation at the Ministry of Education and will be hosted by KKU from the 21st to the 25th of Shawwal.

130 students from 26 universities will participate in the championship, allowing them to develop their skills and practice a highly enriching hobby.

Dr. Ali bin Musfer Al-Qahtani, Dean of the Deanship for Students’ Affairs at King Khalid University, said that the university welcomes the delegations participating in the championship and thanked all the organizing committees serving the university’s guests and ensuring the success of the championship. He praised the great cooperation of the participating teams’ officials and their devoted preparation for the competition. 

Al-Qahtani added that the championship will -God Willing- spread the culture of chess, as a “Sport of the mind”, and instill the spirit of sportsmanship among the students.

For his part, Dr. Saad bin Saeed Al-Qahtani, Vice Dean of Students’ Affairs for Activities, explained that the championship comes within the activities supervised by the Ministry of Education around the Kingdom, which play a great role in encouraging students of all age groups to participate, and spread the practice of chess all across the country, as it enriches community vitality and bonds.
