University President Launches 2023 Year of Arabic Poetry Programs in Collaboration with Abha Literary Club

On Monday, April 10th, Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, President of King Khalid University, in collaboration with the Abha Literary Club, launched the events and programs for the university's celebration of the Year of Arabic Poetry 2023.

During the ceremony for the Arab Poetry Year programs at the university in Abha, His Excellency signed the inauguration paper, showcasing a poster announcing the launch of the programs, which will continue throughout the year 2023. A number of university colleges and departments, as well as cultural committees from the region's governorates, will take part in those events next to the Faculty of Humanities and the Abha Literary Club.

The celebration also featured a visual film in addition to a poetry reading, which was conducted by Dr. Adel Asiri and featured Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Barqi, poet Ahmed Asiri, poet Al-Hafzi Al-Shehri, and poet Rima Alfaifi.

In a speech he delivered, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University, Dr. Khaled bin Saeed Abu Hikmat, confirmed during the celebration that the Council of Ministers’ approval to name the year 2023 the “Year of Arab Poetry” came as a deepening of pride in heritage and rooting for the role of the Arabian Peninsula as a homeland for Arab culture and their civilizational achievement and a reflection of what poetry has come to stand for over the years, which gained a high cultural status as one of the most important cultural components of Arab culture.

Regarding the programs  the university intends to start, Abu Hikmat said that King Khalid University, believing in its national role, has given this occasion great attention since it is a national project that touches the identity and culture of the kingdom, preparing special events for it throughout the year. The university will continue to host a variety of events, such as poetry readings, seminars on culture, dialogue sessions, competitions, and training sessions, with a particular emphasis on assisting young poets with potential and talent who will be given access to special events in collaboration with the Abha Literary Club.

It is worth mentioning, that a number of university professors, employees , students, and intellectuals from Asir region were present for the occasion.
