We reported earlier that the College of Engineering launched an initiative for manufacturing medical equipment, using 3D printing in the Digital Fabrication Lab, to help meet the critical shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical professionals treating COVID-19 patients. The results of that initiative from 21 trained College of Engineering students who participated online under the supervision of highly experienced faculty members on the initiative team were nothing short of amazing. We are pleased to report that 17,800 pieces of PPE were produced and 7 entities in the Asir region served.

Initiative Team Head, Dr. Ali Degim, thanked his Asir Gov. Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz the University and His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, for his continuous support and encouragement. He also thanked Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Mohammad Al Misfer, and the initiative team for their sincere national efforts to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Degim added that the initiative comes within the university's participation in the "Neshama Asir" initiative, which was inaugurated by Prince Turki bin Talal and represented by the "Manufacturing and Developing Health Protection Products Project". He also commended the initiative, noting that it allowed students the opportunity to take part in serving their community as well as receiving quality training.
