The Female Community College at Tehama recently organized a walking marathon campaign titled 'Towards a Healthier Life' as part of the Ministry of Health's (MOH) 'Walk Challenge', which is a competition based on a daily target of step count (not less than 8,000 steps per day). The marathon was in cooperation with the Department of Health at Mohayil, Dr. Nutrition Company, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) 'Walk 30' campaign. Walk 30 aims to promote public health, cultivate a culture of walking, and boost the number of people interested in walking, as well as help over 500,000 individuals with chronic diseases.
The event included a number of awareness booths that addressed nutrition and health, measuring blood pressure, measuring blood sugar, and measuring eyesight. The number of participants in the walking marathon reached 200 contestants.
Assistant Dean of the Community College, Dr. Nida Al-Qaisi, confirmed the college's keenness to establish events that spreads health awareness among members of the community and contribute to promoting healthy behaviors. She pointed out that this contributes significantly to delivering a message to the public.
The Department of Health Awareness supervisor in Mohayil gave an awareness lecture during the event. She explained that this event aims to enhance public health and establish physical activity as a culture. This is in accord with Vision 2030, which aims to increase the number of individuals who engage in regular walking from 17.4% to 35%.
Of noteworthy mention, this event is the first of its kind at the Tehama Campus and was launched at the college administration building near the internal walkways between colleges.
