King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, hosted a forum titled 'The Role of Assessments in Learning Outcomes'. The forum was organized by the College of Arts and Sciences in Ahad Rafidah. The purpose of the forum was to explore the various ways in which evaluation and assessment influences learning outcomes in higher education. The program also discusses the obstacles and challenges that occur in the test and evaluation process.
His Excellency focused his presentation on the importance of using assessments and evaluations to improve learning outcomes in academic programs. He noted that the Ministry of Education is also examining this issue to help improve education throughout the Kingdom. The Ministry and King Khalid University are acutely aware that higher education is an integral component of the national development and economic expansion plans. Therefore, continuous improvement of universities is a high priority at many levels. The Rector thanked the College of Arts and Sciences at Ahad Rafidah and its Dean, Dr. Salma Al-Gharabi, for organizing and hosting the forum.
Dr. Salma Al-Gharabi, thanked Rector Al Solamy for his support and sponsorship of the forum. She further explained that the university uses a variety of means, including this forum, to invest in the skills and capabilities of its faculty members and teaching staff. The Dean noted that nine working papers (both theoretical and practical) were presented at the forum. These papers were used to identify assessment and evaluation issues, and to consider various recommendations that can be used to achieve better learning outcomes.
Assistant Professor Huda Ibrahim Osman presented a scientific paper in which she reviewed the importance of having specifications in constructing achievement tests and measured learning outcomes. The main premise of her paper is that evaluation methods should be directly linked to measurable learning outcomes. Dr. Manal Mohammad presented a paper on the academic learning outcomes at King Khalid University. Her paper aimed to consolidate the concept of learning outcomes for academic programs.
The coordinator of the quality unit at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Mai Al-Dessouki, presented a paper on the difficulty of quantifying learning outcomes of the courses at King Khalid University. The paper aimed to clarify the difficulties in measurement and suggestions for overcoming such obstacles.
The coordinator of the assessment and evaluation unit at the Faculty of Humanities and Coordinator of the Assessment and Evaluation Center at the Female Students Section, Dr. Manna Al-Assal, presented a paper titled 'Assessment and Evaluation Center at King Khalid University- Between Reality and Hope'. The paper aimed to clarify the reasons for establishing the assessment and evaluation center. Next, Dr. Asmaa Farouk made a presentation about the challenges and proposed mechanisms to implement standards of assessment and evaluation in female colleges.
Dr. Fatima Amin, the coordinator of the assessment unit in the female section, along with Ms. Najat Abdul Majeed, of the Faculty of Arts and Science at Dhahran Al Janoub presented a paper titled 'An Analytical Study of Achievement Test Results'. The paper aimed to analyze the reality of achievement test results.
The Head of Academic Development and Quality Unit at the College, Dr. Suhad Osman, presented a paper titled 'Assessment and Evaluation: Challenges and Proposed Solutions in the Community College in Khamis Mushait'. The paper aimed to identify the challenges and proposed solutions to the application of assessment and evaluation at the Community College in Khamis Mushait.
The head of the national and international performance assessment tests, Ms. Khairia Al-Duraimi presented a paper titled 'Assessment and Evaluation in Light of National and International Tests', which aimed at introducing the different types of tests.
At the end of the forum, Dr. Salma Al Gharabi conducted a discussion among female members of the faculty titled 'The Reality of Assessment and Evaluation from the Perspective of King Khalid University Faculty Members'.
