King Khalid University, represented by the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education, has opened registration to the 'Lawyer Preparation Program', which will issue legal licenses upon completion. The registration process starts on Tuesday, 04/04/1440 AH. This program stems from a cooperation agreement between the university and the Ministry of Justice, represented by the Justice Training Center.
On this occasion, the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education at King Khalid University, Dr. Omar Alwan Ageel, explained that the purpose of this license training program is to ensure that law students and neophyte lawyers can successfully transition from academic study to the actual practice of law. The training programs were designed by highly experienced legal scholars and practitioners. The training focuses on the procedural aspects and practical knowledge required to navigate the legal system within the Kingdom. The training program also prepares burgeoning lawyers to attend various types of hearings and represent relevant interests in court. In the same regard, he emphasized that the major advantage of the program is that it ends with a legal license to practice under direct supervision from the Justice Training Center at the Ministry of Justice. Of note, the program will utilize a variety of learning strategies such as discussion sessions, mock trials, simulation, procedural research, and guided readings. The program will be professionally delivered by a select number of elite faculty members from the College of Business, the College of Sharia and the Fundamentals of Religion, and subject matter experts from the Ministry of Justice.
The program has two tracks - vocational and training. The vocational track spans three-years in an undergraduate program. The first year is divided into two semesters and focuses on the theoretical aspects of law and encompasses 16 credit hours and 9 courses each semester. The second year focuses on professional skills to put the theoretical knowledge into practice. The third and final year involves internships at courts, government/corporate legal departments, and private law offices. After fulfilling all of the program requirements, graduates receive a legal practice diploma, license to practice, and a certificate of training for each course.
The training track program also spans three years and entails undergraduate, higher diploma, and graduate degrees. The first two years involve training in both theoretical legal courses and short training courses. Some of these courses are focused on developing professional legal skills. In the final year, trainees must enter into a legal practice in a court, legal department, or law office. After fulfilling all of the program requirements, graduates receive a legal practice diploma, license to practice, and a certificate of training for each course.
