As part of the 7th International Conference and Exhibition of Higher Education, which is organized by the Ministry of Education during the period from 15 to 18 of this month at Al-Riyadh International Conference and Exhibition Center under the title "Saudi Universities and 2030 Vision, King Khalid University held a seminar on the role of Saudi universities in 2030 Vision.
The debate was moderated by the Vice-Dean for Development and Quality, Dr. Ahmed Al-Jubaili, the Vice-President of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassani, the Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Majed Al Harbi, the Academic Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Saad Dajjam, the Chairman of Scientific Committee, Dr. Naser Tyran, The Dean of Information Technology at the University of Hail, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hesouni, and the Dean of Assessment and Quality at the Islamic University of Imam Muhammad bin Saud, Dr. Abdullah Al-Asmari, in addition to a number of faculty members.
Al-Jubaili explained that the vision of 2030 represents an organizational approach to the development of Saudi Arabia. The vision puts the Kingdom in its competitive position at the Arab and international levels. It is incumbent on all state institutions and their leadership to work towards realizing this vision and cooperate them; Saudi universities has a key role in achieving the vision of the Kingdom.
During a panel discussion, Dr. Al-Jubeili also presented a proposal based on a number of requirements in order to achieve the 2030 vision. Among these proposals are the development of many skills, the availability of incentives and resources, clear and announced plans of action, activating cooperation between institutions, individuals, and others. Another proposal talked about universities as main pillars in implementing 2030 vision. He suggested that universities are among the largest national institutions, and deal directly with the youth, and are associated with the most important activities- education and training, as well as the spread of the university geographically at the level of the Kingdom, In addition to the availability of vast areas of buildings, laboratories and stadiums, as well as the universities enjoy the confidence of citizens and national and international institutions.
There was also a panel discussion moderated by the Assistant Professor of linguistics at the Department of Arabic Language, who is also the Vice- Dean of the Faculty of Science and Arts at Khamis Mushait, Dr. Sultana Al Shahrani. The discussion was on the role of Saudi universities in the face of unemployment in light of the vision of the Kingdom, 2030. The discussion was attended by the Vice-President of Development and Quality in Dammam University, Dr. Eman Saleh, and the Vice-Dean of Student Services in Bisha University, Dr. Badriya Saeed Al-Qarni, and the Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Dammam, Dr. Munira Al-Azarqi.
During the seminar, Dr. Sultana aimed to shape the problem of unemployment from the point of view of university education in particular. She portrayed a true picture of the relationship of Saudi universities to the problem of unemployment. She also aspired to explore the role of universities to deal with it.
Dr. Sultana explained that the importance of this seminar lies in analyzing the statistical reality of unemployment in our country, especially among the graduates of our university, because it is disturbing. She stated that according to statistics in 2015 estimated the rate of unemployment among Saudis was about 11%. The proportion of university graduates who are unemployed increased by 49%.
