The Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al-Issa, is sponsoring the 2nd International conference "Media and Terrorism: means and strategies". The event is going to be organized by King Khalid University (KKU) in Abha, represented by the Department of Information and Communication, Faculty of Humanities. It will take place on the 7th of Rab'e Al-Awal 1438 AH, and will go on for three days.
On the occasion, His Excellency, the Rector of King Khalid University, who is also the General Supervisor of the conference, Prof. Falleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Solamy, has confirmed that the care of the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed Al-Issa, came within the ministry's interest in supporting of scientific activities and programs at the university. Dr. Al Solamy further explained that the conference would seek to find ways and strategies to confront terrorism in the media, and to highlight the role of the media institutions to contribute in dealing with terrorism, in revealing its methods, and in working for the formation of public opinion that would contribute to spreading the culture of tolerance and moderation in the society. His Excellency Dr. Al Solamy, pointed out that dealing with the phenomenon of terrorism with its various methods and means had become a more complex issue that haunt professionals, supervisors of the media institutions, political systems, and international organizations.
For his part, the Vice - President for Educational and Academic Affairs, who is also the Head of the Organizing Committee of the conference, Prof. Mohammed bin Ali Al Hassoun, stressed that the conference proved King Khalid University's educational role at the local, regional, and international levels. He pointed out that "media and terrorism" Conference would include an elite of scientists in the field of media and related areas. These elite specialists will present clear visions about the importance of the media, and how to employ it in the fight against terrorism, in line with the principles of media and correct approaches.
Furthermore, Counselor Supervisor of the Information and Communication Department, who is also the Head of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Prof. Ali bin Shuweil Al Qarni, has explained that the Scientific Committee was surprised by the large number of participation from within and from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; more than a thousand (1,000) requests which form a significant strain on the committee that worked on sorting out of all these requests, before selecting 100 participants from inside and from outside the Kingdom. Dr. Al Qarni noted that international participation amounted to about 30 countries from different parts of the world. He stressed that the university had recruited all the necessary potential to serve the conference due to the importance of its subject and the global interest it generated, pointing out that the Scientific Committee had invited international media channels, social networks, strategic centers, and internationalism institutions, in order to introduce the holistic nature of the conference from all the relevant authorities inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
