His Excellency King Khalid University President, Prof. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, recently attended the College of Arts and Sciences celebration ceremony, which was held in recognition of a number of initiatives and projects.
The ceremony took place in the college’s theater in Majardah, in the presence of the General Supervisor of the university’s branch in Tihama, Dr. Ahmed Atef Al-Shehri and included the honoring of the a number of graduation projects from the Department of Computer Science at the College of Community Service, as well as the honoring of the E-Learning initiative 2nd edition, in addition to the launch of the “Amalna” App.
In the speech His Excellency delivered on the occasion, he stressed the role of such events in fostering a positive spirit of teamwork, and community service, which supports students in achieving their goals, and developing their skills. He also expressed his pride in the initiatives and projects delivered by the college and thanked all contributing efforts in the success of the college and its community.
Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in Majarda ,Dr. Maha Muhammad Al-Shehri, confirmed during her speech that the college constantly seeks development and creativity and with the ongoing support provided by the university, the college has achieved its role in promoting innovation and creativity among its students.
The Excellence in E-learning initiative came in its 2nd edition to raise the quality of the educational process outcomes and support traditional learning with E-learning tools and techniques. 20 academic staff members took part in the effort, which ran for 6 months. In addition, 12 faculty members from different colleges at the university participated as arbitrators in 11 qualitative training sessions on topics like "optimal use of virtual classrooms," "electronic classroom interaction," and "skills for using electronic course tools," as well as 2 workshops. It also included the competition of the most distinguished faculty members in delivering the content of their educational courses through E-learning tools and the best female students in using E-learning and Blackboard.
The "Amalna" application for blood donation, presented by the student Aisha Abdullah Al-Barqi, which was registered in the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, aims to serve the region and find donors by notifying them of the need for a particular blood type and informing them of the existence of critical cases which call for immediate donation.
Around 17 projects were carried out in the context of the students' projects and their employment for community service, in which 118 students took part, and which served roughly 8 different entities. The initiative aimed to transform graduation projects in the College of Computer Science into projects that accomplished specific goals for the college and the community. 5 of those projects were incubated at King Khalid University's Code Lab as pilot projects, and they were "Amalna" for blood donation, a site for booking meeting rooms and restaurant tables, a human detection system integrated into a drone for surveillance, and a project linking between farms and sales stores. Additionally, 6 projects were assigned to the Majardah governorate's authority, 2 to the Majardah General Hospital, and 4 to the university and college.
It is worth noting that an estimated 2,323 beneficiaries benefited from this major initiative.
