Under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Governor of Asir Region Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, King Khalid University, represented by the Deanship of Community Service and Continuous Education , announced the launch of the second edition of its international calligraphy competition. In conjunction with 2021 being the Arabic Calligraphy year the competition aims to enhance the presence of the Arabic calligraphy as a global art and promote the Arabic culture for future generation.
In its second term, the competition targets a broader segment of participants, through allowing the participation for all those interested in Arabic calligraphy and its fields from different countries of the world. The competition includes 4 fonts, Jali Thuluth font, the regular Thuluth font, in addition to the Kufic script, and the text of the Jali font Diwani.
On his part His excellency King Khalid University Prof. Falleh bin Rajallah Al Solmai, stressed the university’s interest in holding this competition is drawn from the belief in the importance of Arabic calligraphy as an art that reflects the Arabic culture and its antiquity among the peoples of the world, in addition to the honor of writing the Noble Qur’an in the arts of Arabic calligraphy. He called on all those interested in the art of Arabic calligraphy from all countries of the world to participate in the competitions and showcase their talents. He finally thanked His Highness the Governor of Asir region for his interest, support and encouragement for the competition.
The Vice Dean of Community Service and Continuous Education for Development and Quality, and supervisor of the competition, Dr. Ahmed Al-Zamili, explained that the Deanship was keen to organize this edition of this competition, after the success of the first edition, noting that the most important objectives of the competition are to spread awareness of the importance of the art of Arabic calligraphy to preserve it and enhance its culture. He added the competition also aims to showcase the aesthetic aspects of Arabic calligraphy and its diverse forms, as well as appreciating as an authentic handicraft, in addition to discovering Arabic calligraphy talents , and encouraging them to master the correct image of the art. He finally concluded by pointing that the competition judging panel includes an elite group of specialists in Arabic calligraphy and its arts.
It is worth noting, that the competition praises exceed 150,000 riyals, distributed among three winning finalists in 4 categories. For registration and more details on the competition (click here).
