The King Khalid University is launching its 1st theatrical festival from 30/06/1436 AH to 02/07/1436 AH. The festival will take place in the Theater of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences in Lassan. The festival which is directed to all university students will be on the platform  of clubs in their respective colleges to give them the chance to perform Plays and to stand in front of the public, thus becoming confident, and so breaking the barriers that may be encountered.

The Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Merrah Al Habash has said that the conducting of such festivals was to emphasize the belief in the role of theater in guiding behavior, in modifying morals, and in the discovery of students' talents, which could be detected through the conduct of such activities. The Dean said, "This festival comes to cover a side of the comprehensive aspects of the cultural, social and sports activities. So, it was necessary to focus on theatrical activity to complement these aspects and to attract new audience, as well as students for the student activities."

The festival targets could be summarized from several points, notably the formation of a theatre group from different colleges in addition to encouraging theatric authoring and directing of all kinds of theatric actions in order to activate the theatrical activity within the university. Moreover, the festival aims at giving a chance to present various theatrical performances, which will in turn lead to discussing important and vital issues in line with Islamic teachings and traditions, and in conformity with the surrounding environment and its customs. The focus of the festival will be on the discovery of acting talent among students, rooting the values of competition among them, in addition to training them on the art of theatrical performance through holding training courses and some seminars.

For his part, the Vice - Dean of Student Affairs for student activities, Dr. Nasser Al Gomishan confirmed that "after the success of Student Affairs in organizing competitive events among the faculties of the university, and because of the success of the cultural Olympics, which uncovered the student creations with the support of their faculties, we got the idea of establishing a theatrical festival on the principle of competition among all the faculties of the university to provide theater performances according to the guidelines and mechanisms of the culture of the theater". The Vice - Dean further stated, "three development courses were conducted before starting the students' activity in the writing of the theatrical text, in the acting and in the directing, paving the road to this festival. We hope - God willing - to be on the level of creative energies in the faculties of the university." The establishment of this festival is to activate the partnership between the university and the Association of Culture and Arts in Asir region.
