Saudi Universities’ Chess Championship 2024 Kicks Off at the University

The Saudi Universities Chess Championship 2024 kicked off today, Wednesday, 22 Shawwal, at King Khalid University. The championship is organized by the Saudi University Sports Federation at the Ministry of Education and is hosted by the university during the period from 21-25 Shawwal, with the participation of more than 130 students from 26 universities.

A technical committee meeting was held at the University City in Al-Fara’a, in the presence of the Dean of the Deanship for Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ali bin Musafar Al-Qahtani, the Secretary-General of the Saudi Universities’ Sports Federation, Dr. Mohammad Al-Shamri, alongside representatives of the federation and of the participating universities.

At the beginning of the championship, the Dean for Students’ Affairs at the university, Dr. Ali bin Musafar Al-Qahtani, welcomed the university's guests in his speech, expressing his great pleasure in hosting this championship and wishing the guests an enjoyable time at the university, hoping that the championship will enrich  the university’s sports system, develop students’ skills, and help discover, refine, and train sports’ talents.

It is worth noting that the championship is held under the Swiss system adopted in international championships, and each university team consists of 4 players, a reserve player, and seven rounds. The championship also includes an interactive workshop on managing sports’ activities at universities.
