The sessions of the International Conference for Media and Rumor have included a session under the title "The role of Saudi institutions in fighting rumor". The session was headed by Al-Jazerah Newspaper Chief Editor, Mr. Khalid Al Malik.
A number of representatives of governmental sectors and national companies and institutions participated in the session, which discussed a number of themes such as the role of the Public Relations Sector in fighting against rumor, models and case studies from firsthands experiences, the communicative and media tools, which are most commonly used in the dissemination and promotion of rumors. The last theme was about ways to confront rumor.
Concluding the session, a number of important topics were discussed. The prominent topic was about the development of a surveillance system for the rumor mongers, in addition to creating a modern system of penalties.
The member of the Shura Council Dr. Fayez Al-Shehri said that it is difficult to apply the system on rumor, especially in the social networking programs such as Twitter, due to the rapid spread of information, in addition to the increased numbers of twitters. However, thanks to modern technological evolution, it has become easier to trace the source of rumor. Al-Shehri explained that the Control System of computer related crimes are now subject to updating, which will include everything related to publishing on the negative and positive levels. Al-Shehri stated that the updated Control System is going to be presented soon to the committees of the Shura Council for approval.
It is noteworthy that a number of academicians and officials of a number of governmental sectors, companies and institutions participated in the session. Personalities such as the Shura Council member Dr. Fayez Al-Shehri , the representative of the Ministry of Health Dr. Khalid Marghalani, from Al-Arabiya Channel Mr. Saad Mautrofi, from the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, from the General Authority for Food and Drug Abdulrahman Sultan, from Aramco company Professor Rehab Abu Zeid, and from the Ministry of Education, Prof. Ahmed Alvahilh.
