Governor of Asir Presides of Graduation Ceremony

His Royal Highness, Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of the Asir Region, presided over the university graduation ceremony on Monday. This is the 21st graduating class of King Khalid University in which 13,450 students received their respective degrees. The ceremony was at the Prince Sultan Sports City facility in Mahala.

The ceremony began with King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, welcoming His Royal Highness and his entourage to the event. After further welcoming remarks to the graduates, their families, friends and the faculty, there was a reading from the Holy Quran followed by the customary march of the graduates.

In his speech to the graduating class, Rector Al-Solamy said that he was overjoyed to witness yet another group of bright, young students achieve their academic dreams. 'On behalf of the entire university community, we congratulate each and every one of you for a job well done. We also express our gratitude to your family and friends in supporting you throughout your college career. University life is not easy, and our new graduates certainly needed the comfort and encouragement of their loved ones to complete this long journey' he said. The Rector then admonished the 21st graduating class that the benefits of their respective degrees come with great responsibility. 'Your communities and our nation look forward to you assuming leadership roles in government and private industry. We are counting on you to help in the cause of national development, while preserving our national heritage and precious cultural values' said Rector Al Solamy.

Dean of Admissions, Dr. Abdulmohsen Algarni, congratulated the graduating class. He noted that rigorous academic programs are very challenging. Dr. Alani thanked the faculty members who work closely with the students, helping them overcome obstacles and deal with setbacks. He then recited the vital statistics on the class of 2019. The new graduates represent 29 colleges and more than 80 different academic programs. There were 11,358 bachelors degrees awarded, while 1,588 graduates received associates diplomas. He noted that despite the great number of programs, the KKU maintains the highest academic standards throughout the university system. The Dean said that he was looking forward to engaging with another new group of young students this next academic year.

Later in the ceremony, the students performed an operetta titled 'Ambition'. The audience was both surprised and delighted by this program.

His Royal Highness then congratulated the 21st university class of 2019 including those receiving master and doctorate level degrees. His Royal Highness Prince Turki also recognized those international scholarship students receiving their degrees from King Khalid University. The Prince took photographs with the faculty and graduates. Afterward, the Rector presented His Royal Highness with a plaque commemorating the ceremony and thanking him for his continued patronage.
