His Excellency King Khalid University President, Prof. Abdulrahman Hamad Aldawood expressed his happiness on the winning of Abha Award for the year 1434/1435 AH in Culture branch (research and scientific studies). The President stated that the award was an incentive for employees of the university to make more scientific thought and research efforts to strengthen the University's position at the level of research and studies - which is one of the basic functions of the University.

The University President thanked His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, The Governor of the region and the Chairman of the Abha Award for choosing the university to be the winner of this year's award. In a statement on the occasion, the University President admitted that it was not surprising for the university to receive such support from His Highness as the university "is accustomed to this support and assistance from His Highness, in all scientific, cultural and social programs". Dr. Aldawood added that "this honor is a medal on the chests of the university stakeholders, especially the teaching staff who enhance the scientific research and publications at the university. Thus enabling the University to be at the top of Saudi universities in scientific publications, thanks to God".

Yesterday evening, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Asir region sponsored a celebration to culminate the winners of Abha award. The celebration took place in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Chief of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities who was the guest of honor at the occasion. The venue of the celebration was Muftaha Theater, Abha.

The celebration started with a recitation from the Holy Quran, then a visual presentation about the Abha Award and the 40 years of creativity and giving. The video displayed the onset of the award and how it has contributed to support the outstanding creativity to create a competitive mobility in the region. Moreover, the presentation highlighted the financial incentives and developmental stages of Abha Award until it reached the amount of SR 2, 000 000 - including the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC).

After that the Prince of Asir region and the Chairman of the Award Council gave a word welcoming first, the Award guest of honor, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Chief of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, then he welcomed the audience and the winners. The Governor emphasized that "our country is blessed with security, prosperity, progress and development at a time when revolutionary acts are spreading all over many of our neighbors, or in other far countries". He added that Saudis should recognize that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has its own religious, historical, scientific and economic status. And they must meet the aspirations of the rulers of this blessed country - urging all of them to devote their efforts and thoughts, and even their resources to consolidate the right path set by the leaders. The Prince continued that they must inculcate the principles of moderation in the hearts of the young, and to reject all that may stand against society's high values. Consequently, artists, creators and other outstanding performers should inspire that national duty in their work to keep the dear country strong within the parameters of its principles, distinctive within its defined path, as well as being a model of unity. His Excellency added that Abha Award however, was a tributary that enhanced those aspirations, and the spring that pour into the largest national river, and a strong contributor to building the loyal and outstanding human beings.

His Highness the Prince of Asir region indicated that the award - in 40 years - has embraced more than three thousand national developmental creative activities, which made the award bid in career, and a leader in aspirations. The award enacts principles from the ex-loyal leaders from the reign of the founder King - may God have mercy on him - to the era of the just King - may God preserve him - in honoring creativity and supporting excellence, and in building minds and valuing the efforts.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid congratulated the winners of this year's award, praying to God to perpetuate His precious blessing of safety and security on the Kingdom, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, and his Crown Prince, Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Crown Prince, may Allah preserve them all.

Then, the Secretary of Asir Youth Council, Adel Al-Omar gave a word to congratulate the winners. In his speech, Al-Omar explained that that award represented the strong cohesion existing between the leadership and the community. Pointing out further that, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud - may God protect him - "is greatly interested in the development of the individuals in the society -  in all fields". Al-Omar stressed on the importance of youth in the community, because of their significant role in the development process. At the same time, he praised the continuous and unlimited support from His Highness the President of the Asir Youth Council Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz. After that, there was a poem on the occasion, presented by the poet Muhammad Al-Zubaidi.

Finally, His Royal Highness Faisal bin Khalid honored the Award guest, His Royal Highness the President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities Prince Sultan bin Salman. In addition, he honored the 55 winners in Abha award in the aspects of national service, culture, information technology, preservation and development of the environment, and scientific excellence and superiority in the stages of public and higher education.
