Department of Arabic Language and Literature Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Mohseni, presented a seminar titled 'Text Messages in Arabic Literature in the Era of Technology' at the College of Humanities. He reviewed the evolution of short messaging in Arabic from pre-Islamic times through the modern day. Dr. Al-Mohseni is a noted language critic and the Director of the Center for Research and Social Studies at King Khalid University.

Dr. Al-Mohseni presented his research findings that indicate four criteria for such linguistic analysis: Transmission, intensification, aesthetics and subject unity. He also explained his technical approach to evaluating composition features. He also said that the research shows a long history of short literary forms, now referred to as RAGG in Arabic literature. These RAGG standards present a variety of linguistic models in Arabic literature. From these we can trace the evolution of short literary forms using modern communication analyses. Researchers can see the progression from short ancient writings to modern means of communication using social media like Twitter.
