Awareness Program on the Effects of Drugs and Smoking Launched by Rector

On the 12th of Rabīʿ Al-Awwal, His Excellency the University Rector, Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, sponsored the activities of the 'Awareness Program on the Effects of Drugs and Smoking' organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs. The program was conducted in collaboration with the Cultural Awareness Center.

Upon his arrival, Rector Al-Solamy toured the venue and the booths participating in the exhibition. There were 11 booths that included the Ibn Rashid Optical Center, the Poison Control and Chemistry Center, the Ministry of Health's Anti-Smoking Program, the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Health Affairs in Asir, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Dentistry.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Rector Al-Solamy welcomed all participants and spectators, expressing his appreciation for their efforts to raise awareness and educate the students and the public at-large.

Rector Al-Solamy cautioned our youth on the grave dangers of drugs and illicit substances. He mentioned that the university had adopted the first strategic anti-drug plan in the Kingdom supervised by HRH Prince Turki bin Talal, Deputy Governor of the Asir region. HRH Prince Turki bin Talal has developed a strategic anti-drug plan which is now being implemented by the university. At the end of his speech, Rector Al-Solamy thanked all those who worked towards the establishment and success of the activities of this program.

Later, the Cultural Awareness Center Supervisor, Dr. Khudran Al-Sahimi, delivered his presentation. He stressed that the center is fully committed to supporting this program and raising awareness of the social and health dangers inherent in drug usage. He then briefed the attendees on the center's services and programs for the prevention of drug use in our society.

The program also included various meetings and working discussions. Supervisor of Education, Mr. Ahmed Badawi, and Dr. Hassan Al-Qahtani, a member of the Department of Drug Control in the Asir Region, discussed the effects of tobacco usage, drugs, and intervention strategies. The meeting displayed figures and statistics on the devastating impact drugs have on our society.

The Cultural and Awareness Center presented a short film detailing the center's goals, mission, vision, and planned events. The program also included a play titled 'Determine Your Location' by Theater Club students, where they discussed the dangers and consequences of drug usage. At the end of the program, His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy honored the participants and contributors that made the event successful.
