A team at King Khalid University issued a study entitled "Enhancing and Activating the Aspects of Social Responsibility Through Government Agencies, the Private Sector, and Individuals." It discussed the concept of social responsibility, its origin, and its components. It also shed light on the Islamic basis of it. It reviewed the most important previous studies in the field. It ended with a presentation, analysis, and interpretation of the results in the field study, in addition to recommendations for all sectors to develop social responsibility.

Dr. Abdul Latif bin Ibrahim Al Hadithi, Dean of the Institute for Research and Consulting Studies, pointed out that social responsibility plays a vital role in the stability, development, and prosperity of individuals and communities. It works to strengthen the systems of society and preserves its values. Each person fulfills his/her responsibility towards themselves and their society. He indicated that the targeted category of the study is the employees in different institutions, whether governmental or private sector. He pointed out that the study contributes to the practical level in the preparation of educational programs to enhance the social responsibility of these employees.

The final sample contained 1445 people with an average age of 36 years, taking into consideration the diversity of sectors, ages, specialties, qualifications and monthly income.

The study focused on several dimensions of social responsibility, the first of which is the attention to community issues. It showed that 95% of the sample feel the pain of the accidents, pests, diseases, and disasters that occur in the society, and 93% are keen to have good relations based on respect, cooperation, and familiarity among the employees of the institutions. In the second dimension, "resource conservation," the phrase "keep electricity and water consumption at home and work" gained 92% of the sample. In the dimension of "moral responsibility," the respondents stressed the importance of self-censorship even in the absence of external supervision and follow-up by 99%. About 93% of the sample argued for issuing laws that punish all those who dare to pollute the environment, and that was within the fourth dimension "environmental responsibility."

It is noteworthy that the study recommended that government institutions should establish awareness units. Their role will be to evaluate internal behaviors. The study further stressed the need to link government and military institutions to social organizations to provide guidance and to raise the level of perception and positive social interaction. For educational organizations as one of the most critical environments of social interaction, the study stressed the need to increase courses that contribute to enriching the national and societal awareness of students, and the importance of teaching the dimensions of ethics management and social responsibility in colleges and universities. The study also has noted the importance of taking part in various social activities in private sectors and proposed the establishment of specialized departments to manage social responsibility.
