A psychiatric consultant at the Faculty of Medicine of King Khalid University (KKU), Dr. Musa Al Zaalh, has given 9 tips for students of the university about the final examinations, pointing to the importance of repetition of the exercise of these methods for several times until fruition.

Dr. Al Zaalh called for the need to self-preparation before examinations period, in addition to relying on God - the Almighty - and prayers. Dr. Zaalh stressed that believing in Allah and prayers would bring a lot of psychological relief, citing that the human psyche when it realizes that there is a great power - the power of God the Almighty - it starts relying on it, and resorting to this power, asking for help and giving. This reduces anxiety and fear, provided that the trust in God is full of faith in the greatness and ability of God, accompanied by hard work and not negligence. Dr. Al Zaalh added, "After that comes good preparation. The student must be prepared well in advance because some students accumulate subjects and postpone studying them until the days of the examinations. If a student does so, he or she might find that the material to study is a lot and the curriculum is long, thus, it will be difficult for the student to cover all the parts of the curriculum, and so he or she starts to suffer a case of worry, tension, and frustration. In addition, self-confidence is important to students, especially in the examinations period, and it could be improved by sending positive messages and nods to oneself"

Dr. Al Zaalh further stressed that among the most important steps of good study was to remember pain and hope; if every student, when he or she feels weak and low determination, remembers the hope that he or she wanted to accomplish and achieve, and imagines changing that hope into reality and success, through getting higher grades, there was no doubt that anxiety and difficulties would vanish, and the student would be pushed forward for success, and would exert much effort, God willing. Moreover, when a student remembers the pain and bitterness that result from failure and embarrassment in front of himself, his family, and the community, there is no doubt that it will be - God Almighty - an incentive to invest capabilities, and to double effort towards good achievements. In addition, there is the need to invest the human potential in order to excel in study and to pass examinations.

Dr. Al Zaalh said, "Exploiting time intelligently is important. It helps students to ease the rate of anxiety and is considered the seventh base of success in examinations because organizing the student's time definitely will reduce the fear accompanying examinations period. Therefore, the student should organize time and distribute subjects in proportion to the days of examinations and dates." Dr. Al Zaalh continued, "Among the right factors of good study and good attainment is to choose a "quiet zone", where there is no inconvenience, in addition to the application of relaxation exercise once or twice a day until the end of the examinations. This exercise relieves the student from stress and anxiety"

Finally, Dr. Al Zaalh also advised the students to take care of the quality of their foods and drinks, which in turn would help to stimulate the brain for effective mental capacity. He advised drinking a lot of liquid, as well as green leafy vegetables and fish, especially salmon, in addition to fresh fruit and glucose, as it gives more energy to the brain.
