King Khalid University Media and Communication Center held a competition entitled “Media Star”. The competition was within the Department’s strategy to support and develop media students’ talents. Amaal Al Ayed presented the idea and it was one of the most prominent ideas submitted by students and supported by the department. It aims to shed the light on distinguished media cadres. The competition was carried out over two days in the presence of the Vice-Rector of Student Affairs for Female Students Affairs as well as the department’s employees and students.
The competition presented 3 media tracks for competing the art of public speaking, journalism, and filmmaking. The participations and presentations were evaluated by the jury consisting of the Supervisor of the Media and Communication Department, Sarah Al-Sulami, the Assistant Supervisor of the General Administration of Scholarship Students, Dr. Jamila Al-Qahtani, the Assistant Supervisor of the General Administration of Media and Relations Nora A’am, the director of the Media and Communication Department, Sarah Al-Qahtani, and the department’s faculty members Dr. Maryam Al-Ajmi, Dr. Noha Jafar, Dr. Hajar Jad Allah and MS. Hanan Al-Rouaithi.
The Assistant Supervisor of Media and Communication Department Sara Al-Sulami, explained that this competition aims to discover distinguished talents, develop them and expand the scope practice in reality.
She confirmed that the Department pays special attention to such activities which develop media skills through a number of strategies. Due to the success of this competition, the second edition will be launched next year. It will be an updated version following the recommendations proposed by the competition’s jury.
At the end of the competition the Department’s Head of Student Activity Dr. Laila Faqiri, Said: This competition brought forward the best participations in public speaking, journalism and filmmaking. In the hope that such initiatives will develop student talents.
The Media Star winners were announced, winners in the field of public speaking were Rim Amer who won the first prize, Sharaf Al-Qahtani won the second and Rahaf Abdullah the third. In the feild of journalism: Raydah Mushabab ranked first, Heba Al-Shahrani came second and Razan Al-Akasy third. In the field of filmmaking, Dima Ibrahim ranked first, Abeer Mufleh the second and the third Amira Saeed.
The competition concluded with honoring the Department supervisor, jury, sponsors and the competition organizers the students Amaal Abu Madini, Amal Ali and Manal Al Jubran.
