Training Courses and Health Workshops Highlight Culture and Health Awareness Program in Bariq

In previous articles, we have reviewed the recent community health and wellness outreach program in Bariq. In this article, we provide a glimpse into some of the activities in more detail. The program included many training sessions, some of which focused on dealing with common medical emergencies.

 

Dr. Ali bin Saeed Al-Qahtani conducted a workshop titled 'Sudden Nasal Bleeding: Its Causes, Methods of Treatment and Prevention'. He discussed the two types of nasal and frontal nose bleeding, and reviewed the surgical interventions to stop these maladies. Dr. Al-Qahtani also noted some of the challenges and obstacles to prevention and treatment of nosebleeds (medically known as 'epistaxis').

 

Dr. Awad Asiri from the College of Medicine delivered a lecture on chronic diseases common in the Asir region. After reviewing the diseases, he provided information on the latest methods for diagnosis and treatment of each. The core group of participants in this workshop included Provincial Healthcare Director, Mr. Sulaiman Al-Saloumi, and a group of local doctors and nurses.

 

Dr. Awad Asiri conducted a second lecture on diabetes. He discussed the various symptoms and methods of diagnosis. He also reviewed the different types of diabetes and the need to differentiate between types in order to effectively treat the disease. Later he discussed the various medication, treatment protocols, and lifestyle habits that diabetes patients use to manage their condition.

 

Prof. Ali Al-Bashabshi delivered a lecture titled 'Intensive Care', which discussed critical emergency procedures. The focus was on heart and circulatory system failures, and the various methods and strategies for first responder critical care ie. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

 

Finally, there was a discussion on thyroid disorders. The discussion was centered on diagnosis and treatment methods of hypothyroidism.
