On the 13th of Rabīʿ Al-Awwal, the Special Needs Center in the Deanship of Student Affairs celebrated 'International Day of Persons with Disabilities' at the Female Science College Theater. The event aimed to spread the awareness of persons with disabilities and their rights in society.

The event began with a speech by Vice Rector of Students Affairs, Dr. Khalood Abu Melha, where she said: 'We seek to raise the awareness of special needs issues and rights through this event. Those having a reality to be accommodated number around one billion around the world and 1 million in Saudi Arabia. The rate of disability in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is about 3% as compared to the 10% international level of disability. We call for an increase in the awareness of the challenges and life of those with special needs.'

Vice Rector Abu Melha explained that the university spares no expense in the development of tailored programs for those with disabilities. By providing in-demand services and encouraging them to take part in all events and activities, the concept of special needs in our academic environment is firmly established at King Khalid University, she related. It was also mentioned that the university will undertake modifications to buildings, labs, and facilities to make them more accessible. In doing so, an environment that is optimal for learning will be provided.

Vice Rector Abu Melha thanked His Excellency King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh R. M. Al-Solamy, for his continuous support and attention. After, she extended her appreciation to the Dean of Student Affairs and to Dr. Kamlah Ali Mansoor, Special Needs Center director, for their role in developing the center's vision, mission, and goals.

The event was concluded by a film that discussed the everyday life of people with special needs and an open discussion on suggestions and plans for persons with disabilities.
