University ends up activities of "Discover Cancer" campaign.

 King Khalid University (KKU) ended up - two days ago - the activities of "Discover Cancer" campaign. The campaign was organized by the University, represented by the Deanship of Female Students Affairs in the University Center in Al-Samer District, and in collaboration with Zohra Association for breast cancer. The campaign witnessed a large turnout.

Since its launching, the holders of the campaign were conscious of introducing the disease, its types, in addition to the main causes including age, family history of the disease, first-degree relatives as well as previous incidence, late childbirth, psychological stress, and unhealthy food. The campaign also has provided, since its inception, sensitization about the importance of prevention and early detection procedures, which include visiting family doctor once a year, and making mammogram ray once a year or two years for the ladies who are 50 years old.

Campaigners stressed that the most important goal was to reach a stage of a society free of breast cancer. In turn, the Attorney of University Center for the study of Female university students, Dr. Nemma Riad, revealed that the campaign had suspicion of the existence of 22 positive cases out of 40. Cases were transferred to Asir Central Hospital to conduct the necessary examinations. Dr. Riad also showed that there were other seven cases with a family history of the disease, so they had been transferred to Asir Hospital at their requests. Results proved 11 negative cases. Dr. Riad stressed the importance of awareness and early detection, which increase rates of cure of the disease.  She concluded, "Awareness and educational campaigns play an important role in the early detection and community awareness of the symptoms of the disease."
