Neurosurgery consultant at Asir Central Hospital and Assistant Professor at King Khalid University, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nami, with the help of a participant medical team, recently conducted 5 complicated brain tumor operations successfully without noticeable neurological complications.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nami clarified that the tumor locations varied from the bottom of the skull, to the brain, to around the brain stem and spinal cord. Patients ranged from 11 to 71 years of age. A number of doctors from the Departments of Neurosurgery, Anaesthesia, and Paediatric Intensive Care participated in these operations.

He added that the symptoms of brain tumors vary, depending on the location of the tumor, such as difficulty in concentration, mobility impairment, or a loss of the use of a certain part of the body, as well as slurred speech or even loss of speech, convulsions, impaired vision and hearing, and various other symptoms.

Al-Naimi noted that there are more than 120 brain tumor types, including benign tumors, some of which occur frequently, while some are rare.

It is noteworthy that such operations are considered urgent cases, which need to be transferred to advanced hospitals, due to a lack of nuclear radiation treatment in the region for patients who suffer from malignant tumors.
