International COVID-19 Webinar Draws More Than 1,250 Registrants
The Saudi Scientific Society for Medical Education (SSME) at King Khalid University recently launched an international webinar, entitled Medical Education Challenges and Opportunities During COVID-19, headed by Vice Dean for Academic Development & Quality, Taibah University's College of Medicine, Dr. Khalid Shahat, to more than 1,250 participants from all over the world in cooperation with the Virtual Medical Academy. Of note, Dr. Shahat is the founder of the Virtual Medical Academy, which is the 1st health e-learning platform with more than 7 years of experience accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
Medical Education Department Head at Umm Al Qura University, Dr. Rania Zeni, moderated the sessions that notably included the participation of Saudi Scientific Society of Medical Education Vice President, Neuroscience Technology Program Head at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dr. Mona Al-Sheikh. She walked participants through the current situation of Saudi medical colleges, evaluation procedures, students' views of the temporary procedures, and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on long-term medical education. Further, she confirmed that Saudi schools and universities have the infrastructure and manpower necessary to implement online education at the highest levels. Following after, Pakistani Association of Medical Education Head, Dr. Rehan Khan, talked about the practical experiences in online education and assessment, and Dr. Richard Fuller from the University of Liverpool concluded the meeting by reviewing valuable references in this field.
