University Launches a Campaign to Combat Invasive Plants

King Khalid University, represented by the College of Science and in cooperation with Prince
Sultan bin Abdulaziz Center for Research, Environmental and Tourism Studies, launched an
educational campaign, which took place at the university city of Al-Qara’a, to introduce
invasive plants. The campaign aimed to monitor and combat invasive plants in our local
environment and address their negative effects on soil and the agricultural environment.

 

The campaign included 4 main activities: inventorying & defining invasive plant species in
the university campus, delivering an introductory workshop on the program, developing a
strategic action plan to combat invasive plants in the short and long term, as well as training
university undergraduate & graduate students and those interested through fieldwork in order
to define, control and explain the effects resulting from the spread of plants and weeds.
